Re: 2018 NBA Draft Thread
The Stepien has the prospect broken up into Tiers as in how good their potential is-
Tier1 - 1 guy
Tier2 - 2 guys
Tier3 - 4 guys
Tier4 - 5 guys
Tier5 - 12 guys
so all their players ranked from #13 to #24 have similar potential, and most of the guys ranked Tier6 look like they will struggle
fivethirtyeight had an article on past drafts where they talk about the average draft having about one Superstar per draft class, about 10 Starters per class, and about 25 role players. To me I think we might be lucky to get 30 total nba players out of this draft, which would make it ~ 6 players shy of even being an average draft much less a deep one.

Every single one of those players sucks imo.

Just do what it takes to get Jontay Porter and Brunson, short of getting a star in this draft, that would make this team much, much better over the next 3 years.

Count me in for Jontay - though I think he'll go a couple picks higher than 17. Instead of Brunson, I'm thinking of 2 of his teammates - Spellman and Donte Di. Thinking outside the box on Donte, could the Bucks go with a backcourt of him and Brogdon? Neither is a true PG with good speed and quickness, but both have PG skills - underrated ball-handlers who understand how to run an offense. Both were starting 2's in college that also acted as their team's backup 1. And both play D. Bucks need a knockdown shooter, and Donte is that.

You think Brunson will be better than Nigel Williams-Goss?

Can someone sell me on Jontay? He has some tremendous skills but he comes off as soft to me in his videos and his lack of athleticism could be worrisome.

The Stepien doesn't even have DiVincenzo in their top 37 rankings??

Little Cleo be mad they stole his system! Though they are a bit light on the number of tiers...

I don't think he's soft in the slightest. One of the better screeners in the draft class and does fine defending the post. I do get the worry about his lack of athleticism but he's fluid and still hasn't grown into his body. He's also the youngest guy in the class. I do see some athletic upside.

No idea, but I think NWG was about 180 pounds and Jalen seems to be a legit 200, but I didn't watch much of either. I just see Jalen play and the guy is a straight basketball player that looks like a guy that will be in the league for 10 years. I just like him.

I think you can look at some guys that were a little softer at that age and see what an NBA training staff can do. I mean, look at Marc Gasol at the same age, Kevin Love, I'm sure there are other examples I'm not thinking of too.
I think that actually gives him a bit more physical upside than he is getting credit for, just really hope he is there because he seems like the perfect player for a Bud system and compliment to Giannis. I mean, if he is Drew Gooden with a brain, that is a pretty damn good player.

Marc Gasol - without Gasol the Younger's defense - is my lazy analogue for Jontay. Really seems like a good fit for Bud's post-initiating offense. Gasol looked like he injected Filet-o-fishes into his bloodstream when he entered the league. Give him NBA training and diet and time for his body to mature and I think there could be a very dramatic change. OTOH, he could be seduced by the siren call of the Mars Cheese Castle and go full on Mike Sweetney. Real life choose your own adventure, right there.

NWG is 6’1.5” tall with a 6’7.5” wingspan 190.2lbs 34.5” vertical
Brunson is 6’1” tall with a 6’4” wingspan 198.4lbs 37” vertical

Yeah, I got nothing other than I think that NWG drank a gallon of water before that measure. But I like I said, I don't know a lot of NWG game, I just really like Brunson and think he will be in the league for a long time.

Re: 2018 NBA Draft Thread
Yeah, I'm leaning towards the idea of this class not being so deep. Very top-heavy, with one clear-cut blue chip prospect (Ayton) and a few tier-2 guys rounding out the Top-6 or so (Bagley, Jackson, Doncic, Bamba). Just the way that I see it playing out. Even last year I could get excited for real talents like OG, Giles, Jarret Allen, and established college guys like Kuzma and John Collins falling in our range.
Don't think the 15-30 range is littered with those kind of guys at all this year. They could be really good role-players for years, but just not too excited about Jontay Porter, Lonnie Walker, and Jalen Brunson being the best prospects on the board where we'll be picking. I'd probably just take a swing on a guy like Mitchell Robinson if having to choose between those 3.

They really couldn’t be more similar in their playing style. NWG is a better defender, Brunson a better shooter

Yeah, I am not disagreeing, I'm saying I'm ignorant to comment on it.

I don't think Chandler Hutchison is being talked about enough. He's in my top 3 realistic players to target at 17. Has an all around game with a nice jumper.

Re: 2018 NBA Draft Thread
They're only on the fringe of even getting drafted, but I continue to irrationally like Jevon Carter and Sagaba Konate.
Also, as far as fringe 1st rounders go, has anybody checked out Jerome Robinson from Boston College? He absolutely lit the ACC up this year. Averaged nearly 25 PPG in conference play on 55/45/83 shooting splits.
John Collins was literally the only guy that I was excited about in our range last year. There's probably 5 or 6 guys I'd be happy with so far in this stage of the process.
