I think the Suns have been largely mismanaged by Ryan McDonough, who should be replaced in order to give the franchise a reset and make them the free agent destination they should be.

Whats wrong with PHX? I understand players not going to that losing culture as of late but the location itself is wonderful.

How is Phoenix wonderful? Have you been?

Scottsdale in specific is what gives Phoenix appeal for athletes. Scottsdale is a fun city to be in if you like white girls and are rich. I also remember you made a poor comment about the landscape of LA, would recommend you go back to your community college and take a geography class

We will probably try to max Capela/Gordon and be stuck with an albatross contract for a non All-Star player

It doesn't have a lot to do with the poor record as even when the Suns were winning they weren't drawing interest in big name FA's, it's a small market so they have to use the draft and/or trades to bring in big stars.

The Suns got Barkley, KJ,Amare, Marion and Kidd via trades.

Nash was the only major FA signing and he was undervalued at the time at that and many thought his best years were already behind him.

They're terrible defensively and don't have a core which has proven they can come close to challenging for a playoff spot.

Maybe in a year if Ayton is the real deal they'll be able to garner interest but as is... Why would a max free agent choose Phoenix?

The Suns have a rich history of great teams and players. Kevin Johnson, Tom Chambers, Majerle, Barkley, Nash, Stoudemire, Marion, Johnson, etc...

Also NBA players generally favor warmer weather. And at least for the US, and before the dry heat ruins their skin, Arizona has a larger relative share of attractive under 25 women.

The depth of this team is vastly overstated. Why would any top FA prefer PHX to Philly? or LA?

Booker / Jackson / Ayton (assuming they take Ayton) could be a nice core if both Jackson / Ayton pan out. Even still they'd be a year or two away from getting any traction in the FA market. They need to show an upward trend of improvement as a team first. Their core players also need to prove themselves.

The depth on the team is weak. TJ Warren is about all PHX has. Knight misses 30 games a year and Chandler is 35 years old. Both Bender and Chriss have been less than impressive since joining the league. I think it's probably in their best interest to move on from both of those players and focus on Booker / Jackson / Ayton and future picks.

In a couple years, definitely I could see them attracting a key FA if things fall in line correctly.

A half century with no titles and desert heat. What more could you want?
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

Arizona is beautiful. We're not talking about Arizona though. We're talking Phoenix specifically

Phoenix itself is pretty boring but Tempe (ASU) is awesome for young players, Scottsdale is nice and a lot of rich/famous people have homes in Paradise Valley (which is absolutely gorgeous). I think Shaq and Barkley still have homes there. The heat is kind of rough in the summer but many players don't live in their team's city during the offseason anyways and it's beautiful during the NBA season months.

I always wanted to take a vacation trip to Arizona for like a week. I don't know what's out there besides desert and heat.

I'm speaking of the embarrassment that is the modern day Suns.

The team plays in Arizona...

One needs to travel quite a bit out of Phoenix to tap into Arizona's natural beauty. Phoenix itself is nothing. It's a gigantic, sprawling, exhausted cookie cutter suburb.

Seriously guys, visit some of these places prior to passing judgement on them.

Tempe is pretty rad. Scottsdale is like my worst nightmare, personally. I like Tucson a lot. And Bisbee is a total gem of the southwest. I'd retire there without thinking twice.

The Suns are a legendary franchise. All it'll take is a season or two of moderate success & evident potential to attract someone with talent. The same could be said for most franchises. Their recent blunders are literally the only reason they're not in this discussion.

However, I'm not sold on Ayton being great. Booker is awesome & I think Jackson will be a star, but they have so much to prove. Give them two seasons to get their **** together, and then revisit this thread.

LA is definitely a better city than Phoenix. Phoenix still has one of the worst downtowns in the country and they've been dumping millions into it. I was down there a few weekends ago and the weather was nice and the streets were still mostly empty. It's just a suburban wasteland. Nice place if you're a mormon with 9 kids and need a big house on the periphery of the city but if you're a single guy that isn't into basic white girls and the Scottsdale club scene, this place is horrendous. I had to temporarily move back here and after 6 months I'm already dying to get out of this place. Only 6 more months to go.
