You have to take into account that has going to be guarded by 4s and 5s at the NBA level. With his skill level that's a major benefit afforded to him in contrast to a Klay who isn't big enough to warrant 4s covering him
But what's he going to do against them though? His handles are very shaky and he's a toothpick with a fragile frame. His footwork in the post is pretty good but he's going to have to work extra hard fighting for position in the NBA just trying to get to that spot, so I don't really see how he's going to consistently be able to create separation in the NBA.
Completely agree.
Between his lack of handle, poor IQ/feel, softness and injury concerns, I don't think the juice is really worth the squeeze with Porter.
Especially since there are better options from a team composition standpoint.

I'm not judging him from his Mizzou games with that. I'm going off his HS games.HEZI wrote:GONYK wrote:HEZI wrote:

The only thing I can't judge him on is the IQ/Feel for the game because I know he was trying to do a little too much when he returned to Mizzou but that could just be tied to anxiety and adrenaline. I kinda know what it feels like when you don't hoop for a long time and then you finally get out there and want to do the things you are used to doing but the mind and the body just aren't on the same page because of the long layoff. So I'll give him the benefit of the doubt there.

I think Miles is a better Smith analogy. He's a baller but... I wish he was a little bit taller. The concerns with Smith weren't just his injury history.
Excuse me sir, I was trying to make a broad stroke analogy. I don't see it with Miles personally, he looks like a new age Corliss Williamson/Jerome Kersey that discovered a three point line. Just something about him I can't shake off as to why I don't really care for him.

What was he doing that makes you question his IQ? I haven't watched any HS games of his, just highlight packages and clips but that doesn't show you those things.

Misses basic reads, almost never passes on the move, doesn't see a play develop if it doesn't result in him scoring. I'm not expecting him to be a PG, but there is a certain amount of awareness you'd like to see from someone who is styling himself as a 3. It's why I think his best position is probably a 4/5.
The question becomes is it a lack of awareness or does he just not care if he's not going to score?
I've essentially thrown out his Mizzou games in terms of evaluation, but it's not like those were encouraging from a mindset perspective either.

He's 6'9, maybe still growing and scored scored 15 ppg as the youngest kid in the draft
Being young doesn’t necessarily indicate potential. Folks were gaga over Mudiay because he was young. His workouts are very meh
Knox avg 15pg at 18yrs old for a top program, THAT indicates potential

Knicksfan20 wrote:Fat Kat wrote:How is Knox showing potential? What is everyone seeing?
Knox has a great skillset for the league along with very good measurables. He may never become a #1 type of player, but he could grow into that #2 or #3 role while being an adequate defender. (Maybe?)
Knox isnt completely dog **** at basketball. He does have some basketball skill to go along with his length/athleticism. At the very worse he can be a combo forward in the league who stretches the floor and can score some points.
But if he reaches his potential, he can be a very good well rounded player. I dont think he will reach his max potential, but nobody here can tell the future.
Floor- Tim Thomas, Charlie Villanueva(somebody just made this comparison and i kinda like it)
Potential- A more athletic Keith Van horn/Al Harrington/Danny Granger
But with his size/length/athleticism/shooting touch he has the tools to become an all star, people question his drive. I dont see a whole lot of dawg in him either. I dont think he will ever reach his max potential, but I also dont think he will be a lazy player and be a complete bust.

I think Porter's handle is fine if he's a full time 4 and occasional small ball 5. Again we can't really be sure what he's going to be because in High School he was just more of an athletic freak and could get what he wanted when he wanted and he obviously came back less than 100% at Missouri. Not many legit 6'10" guys can shoot on the move like he can. That's already a tremendous skill to have combined with his very functional athleticism when healthy. His release point is high too so bigs are going to have to push up on him to cover it which will only allow him to play off that jumper even more. Handle can be improved. He's a raw slate but I believe in his natural talent especially at 9.
