Would rather take Grayson allen if the wolves buy a pick in early second.

Short or negative wing-spans:
Redick, Olynyk, Dennis Smith

I could probably name more but you get the point. Not having super long arms isn't a career killer. Yes, it's an advantage but there are very good players who have average to below average wingspans. One of the greatest defensive centers of the 80's and 90's - Kevin Willis - had alligator arms. Svi can guard 3 positions with his quickness, so although defense isn't his strength, he's a smart defender, can guard multiple positions because he's 6-8 and quick (more than Allen), I wouldn't be overly concerned about his defense. Especially since he'll probably be going up against other bench players or the weaker of the offensive players when he's out there with the starters.

Using NBADraft.net as a template, look at the depth in the first half of the 2nd Round. We need to add an extra pick somehow:

31 Phoenix Jalen Brunson 6-2 200 PG Villanova Jr.
32 Landry Shamet 6-5 190 PG/SG Wichita State So.
33 Dallas Moritz Wagner 6-11 240 PF/C Michigan Jr.
34 Atlanta Keita Bates-Diop 6-8 225 SF/PF Ohio State Jr.
35 Orlando Josh Okogie 6-4 210 SG/SF Georgia Tech So.
36 New York Melvin Frazier 6-6 200 SG/SF Tulane Jr.
37 Sacramento Trevon Duval 6-3 190 PG Duke Fr.
38 Philadelphia Sviatoslav Mykha... 6-8 210 SG Kansas Sr.
39 Philadelphia De'Anthony Melton 6-3 195 PG/SG USC So.
40 Brooklyn Grayson Allen 6-4 200 SG Duke Sr.
41 Orlando Shake Milton 6-6 205 PG/SG SMU Jr.
42 Detroit Jevon Carter 6-1 195 PG West Virginia Sr

As highly as I think of Patton, I think I'd trade him for a late first/early 2nd. He's probably worth a pick around 20 but with his injury history, I think that falls down a bit. Most on this board think Tyus is at best worth a pick in the high 30's. I'd like to nab something a little higher than that if possible but I would do it if that's the best we could get. The only pick better than 35 that could be "bought" might be the Hawks since they already have 3 first rounders. Maybe they'd sell pick 34.

Hutchison / Shamet / J Carter

Okobo / KBD / Newman

Okogie / Svi / Metu

The possibilities are endless.

This draft is going to be entertaining for years to come and I feel it will make or break some GMs.

I'm not sure Patton would get you that type of a pick at this point. To get a pick in that range, I think you need to either buy one or trade Tyus.

You're probably right but I would bet a lot of money that Patton will be the better pro than Tyus and in the not too distant future. REALLY hoping:

1. He can heal
2. He can be ready for opening day
3. He gets meaningful minutes

Honestly he's so much like KAT it's not even funny. They've even got the "I was a guard growing up" thing going so they can both handle, pass, and shoot 3's. I'm hoping Patton has a nasty streak, I doubt it, but we need that...

That's seems contradictory. If you think he's going to so good it really doesn't make sense to trade him for a 2nd round pick.

Ya it kind of is, but it's about value of the center position vs. other positions. If I can flip a good rotational center like Patton for a good rotational guard or wing who can shoot and not be a disaster defensively I do it.

Still not sold there’s a chance he goes undrafted also. If wolves pick him as undrafted free agent that will be good.

#20 - Khyri Thomas - Curry’s kryptonite...

25-35 Trade future 2nds to get one of the three Diop-Bates/Hutchinson/J.Evans

Move up in 2nd with our pick Trent Jr.

Prefer Thomas-Diop-Jr

They’d be manageable contracts and the first two beef up out defense all three add 3pt shooting

That right there would be a kick @ss draft. Thomas our tough perimeter defender who can score a little, Diop who can play the 4 and 3 and hit the 3 and switch on D, and of course Trent Jr. for shooting. The only thing I would change is Shamet over Trent. That way if Shamet does pan out as a tru PG you've got your low cost starter when Teague is done.

Maybe this scares away enough teams he could drop to the 2nd round.
Then I think we should try to move up to get him. But I am not a great BBall mind.

The gist that I ma getting is that this will be one hell of a summer league season. Wonder what rookies from last season will do Summer league again.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing.

Hopefully someone starts a thread just for SL updates.

This is good he fills a need for the wolves but is not really worth the 20th pick.

Two months is nothing for a 19.79 year old player. He'll be back before he turns 20 on 8/27. Yeah, he'll miss SL.
