2018 Prospects: Scouting the draft

Would rather take Grayson allen if the wolves buy a pick in early second.

I could probably name more but you get the point. Not having super long arms isn't a career killer. Yes, it's an advantage but there are very good players who have average to below average wingspans. One of the greatest defensive centers of the 80's and 90's - Kevin Willis - had alligator arms. Svi can guard 3 positions with his quickness, so although defense isn't his strength, he's a smart defender, can guard multiple positions because he's 6-8 and quick (more than Allen), I wouldn't be overly concerned about his defense. Especially since he'll probably be going up against other bench players or the weaker of the offensive players when he's out there with the starters.

As highly as I think of Patton, I think I'd trade him for a late first/early 2nd. He's probably worth a pick around 20 but with his injury history, I think that falls down a bit. Most on this board think Tyus is at best worth a pick in the high 30's. I'd like to nab something a little higher than that if possible but I would do it if that's the best we could get. The only pick better than 35 that could be "bought" might be the Hawks since they already have 3 first rounders. Maybe they'd sell pick 34.

2. He can be ready for opening day
3. He gets meaningful minutes

That's seems contradictory. If you think he's going to so good it really doesn't make sense to trade him for a 2nd round pick.

Ya it kind of is, but it's about value of the center position vs. other positions. If I can flip a good rotational center like Patton for a good rotational guard or wing who can shoot and not be a disaster defensively I do it.

That right there would be a kick @ss draft. Thomas our tough perimeter defender who can score a little, Diop who can play the 4 and 3 and hit the 3 and switch on D, and of course Trent Jr. for shooting. The only thing I would change is Shamet over Trent. That way if Shamet does pan out as a tru PG you've got your low cost starter when Teague is done.
