There’s a growing sense that the Knicks have zeroed in on drafting a point guard at this spot, in spite of their clearer need for help on the wing. New York is high on Trae Young, but doesn’t expect him to be on the board at 9. Given Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s similarities to Frank Ntilikina, who it seems will continue to spend time playing off the ball next season, Sexton makes sense here. His ability to get into the paint and fearlessness on the big stage are a good fit with the Knicks, who took fliers on Trey Burke and Emmanuel Mudiay but have neither under contract past 2019. Sexton has a lot of growth to do in order to run a team as a starting guard, but New York can afford him some time to figure it out. If they do opt for a wing, Kevin Knox’s name has come up as a candidate.

Why would having players under contract matter to the Knicks? We had WHG under contract, and never played him, yet played Kanter and KOQ, who were both not guaranteed for the following year. We played Jack all year till the end, and he wasn't guaranteed anything past 1 year.
That seems like a terrible reason to pick a player at 9.

Re: Draft Thread #16 - Mical picks Makal picks Mikhail!
This is how I feel about the prospects in our range:
Sexton: Think he has star potential, but will he hinder's Frank development? Will they be able to work together? Defensively it shouldn't be a problem but offensively I don't want Frank in the corner.
Mikal: Plugs in another piece that will work well with everyone on the team and whoever we draft next year. Maybe not too much upside, but no downside either.
Kevin Knox: Has the size and potential to be an interesting choice. Don't know about his mentality, but he should at worst be a solid scorer.
Miles Bridges: Size is the only thing holding him back. If he improves his handle, could be a beast scorer.
Carter: Solid player who I wouldn't mind taking if we didn't have Porzingis.
Walker: Should be a great shooter and a very good defender. Hope he develops unlike Shump.
I really don't have a consensus guy.

I think Sexton is in the convo. But Knox is I think higher than him and they also liked Walker enough to take him out to a 3hr dinner. Carter, Porter and Young could be higher than any of those guys though we'll see.
The big correction though is this: Mikhal is BELOW all those guys due to limited upside and rightly so.

On Mikhal you dont want solid but lower ceiling guys in star driven league unless your goal is first round playoff exits.

I dunno. I like Bridges because he sounds like a guy this team needs. Plays defense, can hit 3's, good teammate etc. I don't know much about Knox other than he is all of a sudden this top sleeper prospect in the draft. I may be wrong but I want a guy that can help now. I've been waiting for too long.

Look at Mikhals numbers as a frosh or even soph and compare them to Knox. No contest. You draft for who they will become not who they are as an 18 year old freshman. Knox is already fairly close to Mikhal but 3.5 years younger .

Measurable mean something, to be sure. But I think, to a certain degree, height, weight, wingspan, youth get overvalued.
I mean, let's take Miles. Sort of forgotten in the last week of Porter/Walker/Know.
I get that if a player is too old, or older, he's seen as maxed out. And there's truth there. We are still talking about the difference, at times, between 19 and 22 (not THAT vast) or even, at times, 19 and 21. Or 19 and 20.
Miles is 20. He's played a few years and shown a track record at a good program, conversely, he's still young and could develop. Other than Knox coming to ball later, why is it that Miles may not develop at 20 (or Mikal at 22) but it's assumed Porter or Knox will at 19?
I get Miles lack of size for PF and short arms. But he's a nice size for SF. Really no issues there. I could see there might be issues with him switching onto 2's, or 4's - but must switching is in moments, or one play. Sure, it matters, but Miles couldn't hold his own all game long against like 25% of NBA 4's? But hold his own for ONE PLAY against another 50%? What matters is quick feet, recovery, smarts and willingness to defend. Miles seems to have that.
Not advocating for him, but if Miles can guard NBA SF's, and the Knicks need a SF, and he'd be sort of a mismatch for a good number of SF's (I think he would based on strength right away, no less in 2 years) then he wouldn't be a terrible pick, even at 9.
I don't know, Miles seems to have the Mitchell vibe. Aggressive, chippy, athletic, undersized (theoretically), good program, stats, but not through the roof stats...
Philly is going to make out like bandits. They can either go "prospect" and wait a few years (Knox, Porter if they fall) or will likely get a Bridge to plug in energetic team oriented players to an already deep young playoff team.
I wouldn't mind if the Knicks took either Bridge. Or Carter (less "need"). Knox? I guess.

I understand your frustration, but we really don't want someone who will help us win now.
Rather, with KP likely out for most/all of next year, and the team eyeing 2019/20 as the time frame in which to make a play in free agency and become competitive, we should be in upside acquisition and development mode right now.
Hence, the focus should be on selecting a player who can develop into something potentially special, and who also fits that time line. That's why I understand the interest in Knox as a high risk-reward pick, even though I'd personally prefer other prospects (but who I increasingly doubt will be there at 9 based on all the chatter).

That's what I'd like to know. I heard Knox has got a sloppy handle and someone was talking about his mentality? Whatever that meant.
