it's not an anti-frank stance actually, i think they would just rather have the better pick and dump parsons for an expiring. lee & frank aren't really what they're after.

and welcome back :D

I don't think franks value is as low as your saying it. I think people understand he was going to struggle but there is plenty of value still there...but Franks value is still much greater to the knicks than what anyone else could offer.

The first thing would be getting as close to #4 as possible in a trade down.

So for example if the Bulls were trading down #7 has more value than #9. So that gives the Bulls a leg up.
But what might tilt the trade in our favor is the Bulls would have to deal Robin Lopez. The Grizz want to make the playoffs and how does Robin Lopez help them where Marc Gasol plays. Lee/Thomas would be much better fits then say Lopez and Felecio from the Bulls. And if Memphis really wants say Mikal Bridges (who they reportidly like) and can get him at 7 or 9...I think they would rather take the knicks package and shed parsons and get better contributing players.

this whole we want to make the playoffs thing seems suspect at best. lopez is expiring and they have the better pick. so i don't think frank is gonna make the difference.

The Grizzlies are definitely putting all their chips in a pile to try to win now before their veteran core’s days dwindle to a close.

its not as ridiculous as you think. They have Conley and Gasol they really have no choice to compete.

when you look at it straight from a salary dump...yes Lopez > Lee. When you look at it as a chance to get back into the playoffs Lee > Lopez.

If they are just looking for a straight salary dump and rebuild then they wouldn't be interested in trade #4 to begin with. You only trade #4 if you trying to compete.

what management ? i'm talking about memphis. maybe you missed the beginning of this.

I probably did

FWIW then, I got the impression you thought Frank was fairly expendable and he's just another moving part for calculating a package to swap assets

Not sure if that is accurate, but I do believe it is now the opposite and that Frank is considered a cornerstone of the franchise and will not be included in any deal even if it means not being to trade up to a top 4 pick. I think Pills won't trade Frank now under any circumstances. Could be wrong, but I think Frank is kind of untouchable right now

i didn't put frank in the trade. someone said it on the radio. and i said -

a- i don't think we would have to include him
and
b- it probably wouldn't matter if we did

Not insider but Mills gave a press conference where he basically described Mikal with how the team would approach the draft. Since then, the brass has done a lot of sidestepping but most here are basically running with that info.

Also we like him/are not really sold on the other guys in the range/don't think certain guys on the poll will be available. So we like him relative to our range, yes.

It is true that Mikal may be the closest thing to what our management said they are looking for from now on:

Defense, Team Player, Smart, Coachable and Long (relative to their position). I do think they mentioned athleticism, but I don't remember it being the primary criteria

What's weird is that we haven't heard a peep about how Mikals workout went or whether he spent time with Fizdale like Knox did. I am personally leaning more towards Knox, with Mikal as a strong second, but if all of this really is just a huge smokescreen in order for them to land Bridges, then I am genuinely impressed.

Seems like Knox is the smokescreen du jour and multiple teams are using him to flap their gums to mock-up media types and misdirect. Maybe he does go top 10, but if he doesn't then you'll know it was mostly subterfuge. All we can be certain of is he probably did work out well and may have improved his draft position from earlier

none of this is getting them into the playoffs. and they could probably draft a player that will make more of a difference at 4 then courtney lee. this has to be about clearing cap space.

We have had enough super talented players that can score but suck on defense and have crappy leadership skills play here.

We want guys that play defense and do the little things that help teams win basketball games now now. That is why we were so high on drafting Frank last year and we are so high on Mikal this year. Those guys are just winners and play the right way. It's all about culture change!

We could probably find a 3rd team to take Lee for an expiring/cap space to send to Memphis. It may still not be enough though.

I think we going Mikal two months ago I knew this. I was hoping for Knox or Walker but Mikal is cool. My problem is this one day we want to win the east or get a chip. With a lineup of Frank and Mikal we at a disadvantage against Sixers Boston Houston Warriors etc. We need star players on this team to surround KP with. Right now if we draft Mikal we have two roll players around him. To one day will anything we would need two stars either by free agency or draft. So to me we need to swing for a home run now we so far behind other teams.

its about clearing Parsons albatross contract, still staying in the lottery, and getting contributing players.

I think all 3 are weighing on the decisions. Its not just cap space...

We just saw a Parsons level contract get moved for an expiring and 2 seconds.

I’ll take it if that happened but there’s no way I see MEM jumping down 4 slots for that offer. Too many teams could outbid us

plenty of team can outbid us. absolutely right. that's why i don't lose sleep on this one.

is mozgov the parsons-level contract above? in which case, he came with 2 seconds. wasn't moved for 2 seconds.

BKN moves a Parsons level deal for two seconds meaning it cost them two seconds.

And it def is. There are 4 of them - parson Deng Moz Noh

not a problem, if you have a star and 2 very good RP so you abecome attractive and could find another star via FA.
Watch Boston they build a team with role players and just become a good organization which develop players with a team spirit and only after they used their assets to catch stars.
If we will become a good team with a true team spirit around a star, we will become attractive too and we could catch the others pieces, just be patient.
