Not sure this has been posted but might bring some hopes up, I know it made me aware of Carter last summer. Imo he outplayed Ayton here:

Let's call it as it is, the Bulls were not trading 22. The Bulls picked an outdated Center, who can't jump, shoots some crazy shots at random times, can't defend smaller players as he is too slow. Basically the Bulls picked a slighter better Bobby Portis when Niko was already better than that. Carter will not see the last 3 minutes of games as Lauri will need to play Center. The Bulls were not offering 22 due to the love with Hutchison. The Front Office thinks they got the next Pippen. The actually really think that. I sure hope they are right. I hope I'm wrong and hopefully Carter because a star, but people calling him Brand or Boozer might be right, and those 2 guys could not play in this NBA.

Dallas was the biggest winner in this draft. They chose the best player, a good backup PG, and a flyer on the Greek Freak 2.

WCJ is gonna have to lean out a little more for the NBA. Seems kinda slow in his college highlights. He's not particularly athletic or explosive either. I think some of his size/girth is what allowed him to be successful in college, but he cant maintain that size in the NBA nor would it really work against guys his size/bigger than him.

Still luke warm on this pick. Hoping he's great but I'm just not that optimistic.

How? With who?

No one was wanting to trade up for anyone. Maybe if we take Mikal at 7 we get PHX to bite and in more picks I guess.

It would be very difficult.

He's unlikely to become a high-impact playmaker or a high-impact defender. You can't become a superstar through scoring alone.

Dirk did.

That kind of highlights how tough it would be. Lauri basically needs to become Dirk if he's bringing superstar impact.

Which I wouldn't describe as impossible. But far too unlikely to be relied upon.

Yes, it's a crying shame we opted for a 19-year-old center with potential than signing a hobbling DeMarcus Cousins or soon to be declining DeAndre Jordan to max dollars.

Yeah the Phoenix trade is appetizing.

That's the kind of move you make if you're serious about rebuilding patiently.

Folks complaining about Wendell's size as being something that will be a disadvantage:

The NBA is completely different now. Big men dont play big anymore. Which is why when someone actually decides to do it ( like Draymond, Tristan Thompson etc) even if they are undersized, its effective.

Grit, Strength, Lower Body position, Core strength, Agility, Basketball IQ, Court vision, Spatial awareness and just basic, unrelenting determination is what makes a truly good big man.

Wendell Carter has so many of those attributes. And very few Centers in today's league have the same. Maybe they have a couple of inches on him. Sure, but I don't think that's going o cause the mismatches that folks are concerned about.

People are forgetting...

1. Carter is 19... he will get better and he has the body, athletcism, and skills to do that

2. He can shoot. Immediately he makes the floor spaced much better for Lauri and our guards.

3. He is our best big defender from day one. He makes Portis and Lauri better right away.

I wanted Luka or JJJ. I think Carter will be better overall than Ayton, Bagley, and Bamba. I think he will be better than Horford. My issue is that he cannibalizes Lauri's impact.

I think as things progress WCJ plays 32mpg at C and Lauri the other 16. Lauri plays 20mpg at PF and we trade Bobby for a small ball wing PF that plays the other 28mpg at PF.

My comp for WCJ is Capella with a jumper.

League Circles wrote:Can't believe we have people still talking about player heights after wingspan and standing reach have been established as the correct metrics.

Yes. Thank you.

Carter gets compared to Al Horford quite often, and we can hope he is as good of an NBA player as Al Horford is. For the record, here are Horford’s predraft measurements:

Height w/out shoes: 6’ 8”
Height w/shoes: 6’ 9.75”
Standing reach: 8’ 11”
Wingspan: 7’ 0.75”
Weight: 246 lbs

Here are Carter’s predraft measurements:

Height w/out shoes: 6’ 8.75”
Height w/shoes: 6’ 10”
Standing reach: 9’ 1”
Wingspan: 7’ 4.5”
Weight: 251.4 lbs

He’s larger than Horford in all the main measurements.

Also, he has tree trunk lower legs, so he can set screens and hold his position against really big players. And I think he moves his feet pretty well for his size. We’ll have to see how well he tracks guards on switches in the league, but I think he’s going to surprise some people.

Lauri looks way more Dirk then Dirk did after his rookie season.

I expect Lauri to be better than Zinger and approach Dirk levels in his career.

You're wrong about a lot of things you post, but this time you are 100% correct on this one. Horrible comp.

Who didn't play in the 4th quarters of the playoffs. Capella is also in year 4. He wasn't much as a rookie. Carter is way ahead of him right now.

I think if Bagley had stayed in HS and not reclassified that Carter would have BOOMED at Duke and he would have gone 1 or 2.

How much Carter have you watched? You watch a lot of Capella as a rookie?

He isn't ahead of Capela physically other than strength. He's well behind in movement categories. As Capela is one of the most mobile bigs in the league.

I think what Carter will give us on offense and with his shooting and spacing will be more than what he won't bring on D compared to Capella.

Thats pretty optimistic(defensively). I dont see WCJ being the defender Capella is.
