I've had like 0 connections for like 9 years now, but I've been saying that for months now. Sure he wants 15m, but he won't be offered 15m, and he'll probably just double down on himself on the QO. Just common sense.

I really don't see how accepting a QO is common sense at all for Smart

What are we going to see from him next year that we haven't seen the past couple years? Worst case scenario for him is an injury without the safety net of a long term deal. Best case scenario is another million or 2 per year next off-season. Terrible risk reward balance

A lot more teams have cap room next year. More money to go around usually means bigger contracts

Well, with GH and KI back I don’t think he will be as relevant as he has been this year.

If Smart can get $12M out of Danny on a 3 to 5 year contract, he'd be a fool not to take it. If Danny offered $10 and another club offered $12, I think he should still take the C's. There is no team, no coach, no fans that will appreciate Marcus Smart nearly as much as the C's. I hope he talks this over with Evan Turner. There's no place like home, Marcus.

Atlanta (why would they?), LA (obvious), Dallas (Deandre) are not in the mix.
Chicago (starting backcourt set) and Sacramento (starting backcourt set) are unlikely.
Philly is not a good fit and will hunt for big fish.
Phoenix and Indy are possibilities but Smart isn't primary target.

Per Mark Murphy, Nets and Bulls have interest in Smart with Spurs as sleeper, according to league source.

That last bit could help with a possible Kawhi trade if we keep Brown.

According to a league source, the Nets and Bulls are both interested in Smart, with the Spurs considered a sleeper.

If I understand correctly, a S&T like Smart would be can only be combined with picks.

It's a game of chicken with the C's surely not wanting the Nets and Bulls to understand how high the C's would go in paying Marcus--so they will be scared off from tying up their FA waiting on Danny to decide whether to match.

If Smart gets a big offer and we let him walk, I’d be all for throwing the MLE at Will Barton to replace him. Rozier slides to backup PG and Barton backs up Brown at the 2 guard

Smart is a great role player but he has to be realistic about his value. If he values winning, which it seems he does given his competitive drive, then he's in the right place. If it's about his ego or more money, then he should go. Unfortunately, great defenders don't make top dollar only the scorers. He should stay so he can contend for a ring since this team has a legitimate shot at the finals next year. C's have a great core of young players and something special going on. With Hayward and Irving coming back, that will at least hide some of his offensive deficiencies but I do think he's more integral to the team than people think.

Smart will be more inclined to see what other teams have in mind financially, though his earning potential could be stunted by the fact clubs went crazy when the salary cap rose precipitously two years ago with the influx of new TV money. The Celts, with the right to match any offer, are obviously hoping to keep him at a reasonable number. Something in the $10-12 million range would probably work. Some around the league believe those figures would be high for Smart, but league execs always add the caveat that it takes just one team to break a salary structure.

Do the Nets have any substantial cap left? The Bulls do - so do the Pacers, even after McDermott. Spurs putting out interest in Smart gives them leverage in trying to get Jaylen from us in a Kawhi trade - implication being that if we don’t come to the table with a Smart/Jaylen package, they’ll poach Marcus and deal Kawhi elsewhere.

Who is left with cap room?

Looks like only atl, chi, philly and Sacramento.

Could see Divac and Ranadive doing something stupid and offer 12+ million if they do not go after Hezonja.
