Was just about to post that tweet- can someone tell me if we're allowed to trade Lou or do we have to wait? Who do we even trade for Kawhi at this point? There's definitely a backstory behind us going after all these guards in FA

This is our time to pounce and try all possibilities for Kawhi. Lakers won't do anything until Lebron's decision and even then, they won't be willing to give up too many young players and assets

Is it true that our trade package is Harris,Alexander and Robinson? If so, Spurs aren't going to get much better deals right now

The Spurs should have done the deal before the draft if that was acceptable. They probably don’t value SGA, jr that highly since they already have young guards.

I don’t like the trade from the clippers perspective- we don’t know if Leonard’s health will continue to be an issue and he might not commit to staying

If we make that trade, LeBron better be on our side of the conference call with pen in hand.

Think About That for a Moment, Kawhi

Post#216 » by Ranma » Tue Jul 3, 2018 9:26 am

LeBron actively recruited both Mike Miller and Kevin Love in the past, then convinced his GM to trade for J.R. Smith, but when the time came for the Lakers to ask whether they should go all in by trading for Kawhi Leonard in order to pair them together for the King's arrival to Los Angeles, LeBron says he's cool either way.

Then both Kyrie Irving and Paul George chose not to play with LeBron in respectively preferring to go to other situations. While the Lakers are well-positioned to make moves to compete in the immediate future, it's being argued that LeBron chose to "wave the white flag" in riding out his sunset with the Lakers in a situation that is more of a business and personal decision than a basketball one.

Kawhi Leonard better being thinking about these things with his push to come to Los Angeles. Are his priorities more in line with King James' and the Lakers or Jerry West's and the Clippers?

Gortat's tweet encouraging Kawhi to come to the Clippers offering to drive him to practice and back has mysteriously been deleted. Could he have deleted the tweet at the Logo's behest to not risk tampering in the Clips' continued pursuit of Kawhi or did he do so realizing that Kawhi is not actually a free agent as Tomer Azarly pointed out? Hmmm...

By the Book

Technically, they can. The league chooses not to enforce it against players I presume not to run afoul with the NBPA but Adam Silver could impose penalties on players whenever he so chooses and maybe he'll do that one day if a player really crosses the line. However, I agree with you that a player is in little danger of being penalized for recruiting players given what Draymond Green has gotten away with, but I can see old-school Jerry West wanting his players to behave by the book in matters, especially if he thinks there's a good chance of acquiring Kawhi and not risk any interference no matter how slight.

Michael McCann, SI.com (6/27/17)
The NBA’s anti-tampering provision is found in Article 35 of the league constitution. It governs owners, team executives and players. Article 35 dictates that upon a finding of tampering, the commissioner can issue a range of punishments including fines, suspensions, forfeitures of draft picks and transfers of draft picks from the tampering team to the victimized team. As to players who tamper, the commissioner can suspend the player and fine him up to $50,000.
