Re: Welcome Zhaire Smith
If were still talking comps, Ive said it before and ill say it again: Zhaire Smith shares a ton of similarities with Avery Bradley.
Obviously, I think Smith has a higher ceiling because he posses elite athleticism and leaping ability + is also a little bigger...so IMO he can be a much more dynamic Avery Bradley.
Avery Bradley : 6'3" (w/ shoes) 180 lbs 6'7" wingspan
Zhaire Smith- 6'4" (w/shoes) 198.6 lbs 6'10" wingspan
Both entered the league after 1 season in college and were known for there defensive abilities. Similar to Zhaire, Bradley flashed some promise as a spot up shooter, but was deemed to be someone who was going to have to develop his shot to become a good NBA player.
I like what I've seen from Smith so far, especially in that 2nd game. Playing with better teammates who will actually pass the ball will help him immensely early on.

Good comparison. Avery Bradley + Simmons could work well. Defense could be very good.
Zhaire should have good potential. He seems to be a great cutter, always moving. A crash course in ballhandling and spot up shooting, he could be our backup SG this year and starter in the future.

Re: Welcome Zhaire Smith
Question long term if we get Kawhi and project that Zhaire can be a starter, where does that put Fultz?
Are we thinking?
C Embiid
PF Simmons
SF Kawhi
SG Zhaire
PG Fultz
That means Reddick off the bench?

So how do they acquire Kawhi, while still having both Dario and Fultz?

Actually if you ask me which Center I want for my perfect championship caliber team, I will chose Asik hands down

Trading Dario, Cov, and picks as has been rumored... Fultz is a no go as or insider has said numerous times.LloydFree wrote:WMDman wrote:eyeatoma wrote:Question long term if we get Kawhi and project that Zhaire can be a starter, where does that put Fultz?

By the time Zhaire is actually ready to start for a contending team, which that one would be, JJ might not even be on the team.
That would be the lineup I could see, but I figure Fultz would have replaced JJ well before that lineup would happen and you would have to wonder if we would've gotten another PF by then.

I think the actual deal consists around Cov picks and TLC

TLC has potential, so I'll be sad to give up on him. But I'm ok with it.

Meh. Zhaire Smith way ahead in terms of off ball defending and his decision making with the ball is also lights years ahead.Would be fantastic if Smith develops in the shooter Bradley has become.

Yea, it took Bradley a year or 2 to develop some consistency on his jumper....but then again, he barely played his rookie year.
Coming into the NBA:
Bradley :43%FG 37% 3PT on 3.3 attempts per game (112 total). 43%FG and a putrid 54% from the FT line.
Zhaire: 55%FG 72%FT 45%3PT on 1.1 attempts per game ( 40 total).
Obviously Bradley was more willing to attempt jump shots his freshmen year, and he attempted 72 more 3's on a respectable clip.....but i think Zhaire has the potential to become a respectable shooter from 3.

Bradley was a top 5 recruit coming out of high school. He got a lot more freedom than Zhaire did in college.

He also had a lot more ability to hit shots off the dribble and create for himself. ZHaire played pretty big minutes at T Tech and was mostly a garbage player, found little ways to score using his athleticism. That's not bad but there's no reason to exaggerate his offensive skills relative to Bradley, who could always take a couple dribbles and fire up a pretty accurate shot.Sixerscan wrote:Bradley was a top 5 recruit coming out of high school. His passing have been impressive. Reminds me of Iggy passes in half court and especially on the break.

Avery Bradley scored almost all his points on open, spot up jumpers and in transition. He was poor in the pick and roll, poor finishing around the rim and also was mediocre in isolation. He flashed minimal, if any point guard skills at Texas as a freshman and in the NBA.
Dont think anyone is "exaggerating" offensive skills between the 2. Smith may have taken less 3's/jumpers.....but he also managed to put up almost identical scoring output in his freshman year, on better efficiency, despite only finding little ways to score using his athleticism.
Smiths flashed the ability to hit OPEN jump shots, play defense and finish lobs/cuts around the basket.....which is pretty similar to how Avery Bradley has made a living after developing a few seasons in Boston (minus the finishing lobs/cuts part)

Re: Welcome Zhaire Smith
He's TOO raw. A year on our team should make him a smarter defender and better shooter. His offense will revolve around his shooting. Once he's a threat to shoot over his defender, that will open things for him on offense.
There’s never been a time in history when we look back and say that the people who were censoring free speech were the good guys.
