OT: John Starks calls draymond green fake tough wouldn't handle 1990 era basketball

Post#1 » by taj2133 » Mon Jul 9, 2018 6:27 pm

“Draymond is just wild,” Starks said. “It’s good that he’s that way. But believe me, Draymond, back in the day, would probably have gotten checked real quick for his antics.”

He went on to speak more on Green, and how the players from the 1990s would test him.

“See back then, guys are gonna test you,” said Starks. “They’re not gonna be like talking, talking, talking. Those big guys are gonna test you and see how tough you really are, but they can’t do that nowadays.”

“So, Draymond can get away with it. It’s no knock against him because what he does is keep his teammates in games. I’ve watched him get on Kevin Durant after he let J.R. [Smith] come up with that rebound and you need a guy like that. You know, he’s good for a team and times are different.”

He's right tho.

He tried to do that kick **** on a 90s Knicks Player, and he'd have been dropped on the court.

He actually didn't say that he wouldn't handle the 90s. Just that he would have had to back up his talk. There are no repercussions of him gabbing like he does now.

So maybe he could have and maybe he couldn't.

Yeah my guy 2010 dropped that gem on me the other day. Great moment there.

Draymond wouldve fit in, not been a tough guy etc but wouldve handled that era.

I won't say yes or no, but the chatter wouldn't be very long. Now those leg kicks would not have happened without recourse.

I don't wanna hear it. All the stuff they let skinny Reggie Miller get away with especially when he came to the Garden but somehow Draymond Green wouldn't be able to be who he is in that era. Sure the 90s had more physicality and the Knicks were one of the tougher teams back then but still guys like Pippen would bully them. Rodman was allowed to be who he was, Barkley was allowed to be who he was, why would Draymond not be allowed to be who he was? Even Kevin Garnett might have caught a few more Anthony Peeler type of elbows back in the day but he would still be who he is.

the best gif EVER. Metta fouls crazy eyes, crazy eyes looks into the eyes of true insanity and quickly say, Sorry for getting fouled by you. My fault for being in your way.

That said, John Starks certainly knows crazy. I remember watching the game where he head butted Reggie Miller. I though Pat and Oak were about to murder him.

REGGIE had a big mouth but, never tired to play the tough guy. He was a bean pole and they might have killed him if the connected. Dray tries to play the tough guy and will troll you mercilessly. The 1st time he looked sideways at Oak, He have been smacked like he did Barkley and/or yoked up like he did Pippen.

I met Mase a few times in Baisley Park in Queens before he got drafted. He would have gotten into it with him in practice just to see if he was real.

Reggie was a known trash talker and he use to get in Stark's head. So what if Reggie had the Davis boys? Are we now going to overrate them and act like they were tougher than some of the bigmen of today? The difference is the game was officiated differently so players had to adjust to the physicality but that doesn't mean there aren't guys from today's era that could thrive under those rules if it was actually allowed today.

You mean like how he "smacked" Barkley here?

Looks like the only one who got smacked up was Oakley

Draymond is over rated. Just pass it to curry and klay and you're golden. He is a system guy. Would be a shietty franchise player tho.

And even Pippen. He was a grade A biotch. Xavier McDaniel had him so afraid to compete in the playoffs against the Knicks that Jordan had his long-time agent, David Falk (who was also Ewing's agent) steer X-man out of NY and to the Celtics during free agency to ensure an easier path to the finals through the Knicks without X being there to continue to bully Pippen.

Rodman was never a tough guy. He was viewed as an eccentric weirdo. He played gay games and mind games but wasn't no thug. He was acting tough with courtside photographers (kicking them in the nuts) but wasn't really deboing any players unless it was brought to him.

Barkley got smacked by Oakley more than once. He tried to tap back during the game once cuz he knew it would get broken up. But Oakley sought him out during an offseason players union meeting and smacked schit out of him in front of everybody, and he did nothing.

I met Mase by Baisley Park too. I was making a late night store run to "Al's" (Long St. & Baisley Blvd) and ran into Mase in the joint buying some beer. We kicked it for a few. He was a real one.
