Is Courtney lee an asset or an albatross contract?
Now that the cap spike is over and most teams are capped out or close to capped out, there doesn’t seem to be a huge market for a 33 year old 3&d shooting guard making 12 mill a year. Wilson chandler is comparable to Lee as a player and they have identical salaries and Denver had to give up a second for philly to absorbe wilson’s Contract. So then begs question is lee an asset that we can get something for or is he another Knick albatross contract?

For the record I like his game. Him and Lopez were the best pjax free agent signings imo

He is movable, if not this year then next year when many more teams have cap. The team also seems pretty confident they can open the space for 2019 and he would have to be gone for that to happen. It's not a great contract at all but it isn't anywhere near Noah level.

Lee is an excellent teammate, solid 3 and d guard, and his contract is very reasonable for his skill and age
just because we haven't moved him yet doesn't make him an albatross

Re: Is Courtney lee an asset or an albatross contract?
In my eyes Lee is a minor asset to a team needing depth. The problem really is that right now who really wants to be a buyer? Maybe the Rockets? Lee is worth every penny and I am sure that some team would offer him a similar contract if he were a FA.

2 year deal for 12% of the cap
40% 3pt shooter, good teammate, not a terrible defender
He's not really an asset, but he definitely isn't an albatross

It’s not an albatross at all, perhaps it’s better termed as an annoyance.
It seems too many teams believe they are out of contention to value the contract. We need one of those few teams that are trying to contend to have an injury or need.

So you feel we can trade him. What do you think we can get in return?

We would have to give something up in 2019 if we’re gonna clear him off the books?

Albatross due to circumstances.
Teams know our situation. Know we are in play for a 2019 max free agent.
Know we desperately need to move Lee and/or Noah.
They will tax us heavily to take on his deal the same way we got taxed heavily in the form of a 1st round pick in 2010 to get someone to take on Jared Jeffries, who was only making a mere $5 million MLE contract.

The issue is trying to find a team that wants him and also has the expiring contract(s) that opens the cap space.
If you'd rather see your team fail so you can be right
...you are a fan of your opinion not the team.

If they could get cap space and a second round pick or 2 I'd be happy. I think the Rockets could use him if they had the assets.

I’m not sure the rox would take him on with the enormous luxury tax bill they have to already pay

Either a large expiring from a team looking to lower their tax bill or overpaid scrub expirings from a playoff team with no cap to sign vets to contribute
Like Abrines and Singler from the Thunder, Hill from the Cavs, Green and McLemore from the Grizzlies, Ajinca and Okafor from the Pelicans, Rubio from the Jazz, Thad Young from the Pacers as examples

Rockets just lost Ariza and Luc Mbah A Moute. Rumors are Capela and Houston are not close to a deal yet so hopefully he leaves and then they may be looking for some wing help and have money for Lee.
