Bulls Trade - Felicio, Holiday
OKC Trade - Carmelo

OKC saves $15 million in just raw salary, I have no idea how much that is when it comes to the tax but it's got to be a lot of $ and they don't have to worry about $9.3 million per year they would owe him for the next 2 years if they stretched Carmelo. In fact, they could stretch Felicio at about $3.3 million per year after this upcoming season saving them $6 million per year for the next 2 seasons after this year.

Chicago unloads that awful signing giving them further flexibility to have 2 maximum slots going into next offseason. I added Holiday in the deal because it takes us from about $13 million under the cap to $17.5 to allow us the flexibility to sign Lavine still at the targeted $15-$17 million I'd be happy signing him to.

Asik, Felicio, and Holiday for Melo, Albrines, and Ferguson. Not much else I would consider from the Thunder besides a 1st round pick they are probably not offering...

I'm in favor of trading for Melo. I imagine the worse the conteact(s) OKC takes back, the less the Bulls get with Melo (prospects/picks).

It would be great if OKC took Asik and Felicio, but why would they?

In any event, I am in favor of trading for Melo, and I think it would be alright if Melo stayed and played out the season on the Bulls

I think stretching Melo is the same as Felicios contract. I say give it a shot if we can trade Holiday for a second Rd pick to help with the $$.

Zach LaVine plus filler for Melo? We take on one year of Melo and get out of Zach's contract.

First OKC isn't going to take Felicio just to be nice guys nor are they going to give the Bulls anything of value to take Melo and save them $100 million. This is the same level of fairy tale that had people thinking the Bulls could trade scrubs and move up to # 4 in the draft or get a second lottery pick. Aint't never gonna happen.

I'm looking at CLE trying to figure out how to proceed post Lebron and wanting to get rid of Hill and Korver. Korver is a good complimentary player to Lebron but doesn't really fit their start to rebuild.

So why not offer then J Grant for Korver. Still expiring, saves them a few dollars this year and provides a veteran back up for Sexten to help him navigate his rookie year.

The Bulls get a 3 pt 2-3 on an expiring deal so Hutchison doesn't have to be rushed. Veteran to finish games and not have Lavine feel obligated to take the big 3 at the end if he hasn't made many during the game. Also insurance and flexibility if an offer for or requiring Holiday or Valentine comes along.

Holiday to the Pelicans for a 2nd rounder.

Gives them another shooter. Plays with his brother Jrue. Poised & hits timely shots.

I think it's a good swap for a team that needs wing talent.

We benefit giving the minutes to one of our young guys & increasing our chance at another high lotto pick.

I think you guys might be close to being able to absorb Melo's full contract without taking any salaryback after this trade...

Bulls: Melo/2nd rounder/$3 million
Thunder: Felicio

Difference in contracts and compounded interest is about $2M (after Thunder $3M, Melo buyout).

Bulls could trade Asik next year with above 2nd rounder to get out of $3M owed to Asik, if they were able to secure a deal with Butler/Irving or 2 other FA's.

You know that the cash doesn't help the cap, it just helps the FO. I would much prefer Felicio for Melo, Ferguson and a far future 1st like 2023.

Thibs would surely prefer to keep Butler over KAT so why not try and trade a star on a rookie deal for another star. The person I have in mind is Kawhi. I think there are two options for this trade.

1. KAT and Teague for Kawhi and filler:
Spurs need a starting PG and KAT is a great offensive weapon with the potential to grow on both ends of the court. It gives the Spurs the lineup of

Teague/Mills
Green/Manu
Gay/Beli
LMA/Gasol
KAT

2. KAT and Wiggins for Kawhi and filler. I doubt the spurs want wiggins on that contract but who knows.

Ultimately I believe the trade that works best is
KAT, Teague, Tyus Jones, and Justin Patton for Kawhi and Mills

After a trade for Kawhi the wolves can try to flip Wiggins for a big to replace KAT. I think it'll be hard to find someone who wants that contract but i believe there are several options. For example;
Wiggins to SAC for Zbo and filler
Wiggins and filler to NYK for Kanter
Wiggins to the Suns for Knight and Chandler
Wiggins to Heat for Whiteside

I think the heat trade is most realistic.

That leaves the Wolves with the roster of...

Mills/Rose
Butler/Crawford(assuming he re-signs)
Kawhi
Taj/Bjelica
Whiteside

Nobody would score on them. And there are free agent options that would be really good for Thibs, like James Ennis.

I think with what's left over the Bulls have the opportunity to make some moves that make us a competitive playoff team in the east.

First, I'd like to see a sign and trade for Jabari Parker. I'd like to see the following trade

Robin Lopez, Cameron Payne, and a 2nd round pick

for

Jabari Parker (3yr/45mil)

I think the Bucks do it because Robin is a very efficient scorer and a really good rebounder which the Bucks were last in rebounding last season. This deal is a low-risk, medium reward for the Bucks. Payne and Lopez are both expiring but Lopez is a good player so if it doesn't work out long term, no big deal.

For the Bulls, its a medium-risk, high reward trade. 15mil a year is not a small amount for someone who is injury prone but Parker has shown to be a high-level scorer when on the court, even after his injuries.

This will leave us with roughly 23mil in cap.

With that cap, I'd like to sign Isaiah Thomas to a one-year 15mil deal. I believe his best fit will be to come off the bench since we have a less than appealing defensive lineup of LaVine, Parker, and Mark. But that'll be up to his willingness and coaching.

Before making any other FA moves, I'd like to see the bulls to try and free up more cap space. I think the best way for this to happen is for us to pair Valentine with one of Asik or Felicio. I think teams will be willing to take Asik over Felicio since his contract is shorter. I think the best possible trade for us is...

Valentine, Asik, and a 2nd rounder to the kings.

This leaves us with roughly 22mil. With that cap I'd like to see the bulls go after a great role player. First that comes to mind is Marcus Smart. I'm not sure what his worth is but if we can manage to get him on a deal worth around 4/40 I'd like to see us going after Rodney Hood for roughly the same money. My guess would be that Smart and Hood are probably worth closer to 12mil a year. Ultimately, we sign Smart to a 3 year 39 mil deal. The rest of the cap should be spent on a specialist. I'd like to see Jonas Jerebko, a 40% three-point shooter, for the vet min ($2,393,887) and James Ennis, a defender that can guard a lot of wing players and some "big men" at 2 years 10mil.

Our final roster comes out to

Dunn/Thomas/Kilpatrick
LaVine/Smart/Holiday
Parker/Holiday/Ennis/Hutchinson
Markkanen/Portis/Jerebko
Carter Jr/Felicio

Plus about 1.5mil left in cap.

We need a wing. Hutchison isn't going to suffice this season. Have we cooled on Jabari? Last I saw you guys were saying he's more of a 4. But could he play the 3? Now that New York has Knox, we could lowball them for THJ. Maybe Lopez, Holiday and a future protected 1st? Or maybe T.J. Warren from the Suns? Those guys have more wings than they can handle. We could do Valentine, Felicio and a 2nd

Wonder if Wash would do Porter/Mahinmi for Portis/RoLo/Holiday/Felicio.

Helps the $-wise. Portis would thrive there and they are deep at SF.
