LOL Smart’s agent is a fool. Clearly floating that out there & hopefuy Ainge doesn’t budge. Smart didn’t do much this season to improve his value so he doesn’t deserve the same offer.
Something something in the $8 million range is what he’s worth. 4/40, 4/44 tops.

8.4 millions per year, the C's don't pay the luxury tax this year and we are good.

Good, good. Get on it, Danny. Lock him up for four years and at the very least you have a nice trade-able contract in the future.
With that said, I still have faith in my man Marcus to have a Jason Kidd-esque turn around from deep. Throughout his career, he's shown flashes of being a capable shooter, but has always falls back into his chucker mentality. If he would just stop with the running/off balance shots and only take spot up 3's then I really think he can get his percentages up to the 33-34% range... and while that's still very average once you add in his defense, rebounding, and effort plays, then he would be worth every penny of a 10M/season contract, in my opinion.
Marcus Smart has his flaws but when it comes down to the final few minutes of the game he is someone I would much rather have on my team than be going against. #MarcusSmartMakesWinningPlays

He’s staying, it’s over, barring two possibilities - will comment when I’m at a full keyboard - but Happy is negotiating against himself through the media and it’s lol.

I would guess he was offered 4/44.
So now the numbers are probably 4/36. Lost at least a couple million/year from his play last season and his self inflicted hand injury.

Should’ve accepted the original contract mate.
In saying that I don’t think we’d do wrong by Marcus as he is the heart and soul of the team, he just needs to realize he isn’t worth 15-16mil per and it looks like he’s understanding that now.

Sign Smart. The only reason not to is if he is a headcase behind the scenes which in that scenario Celtics should have dealt him last summer or 2 years ago.
As long as Smart stays in shape/stays focused, they will be getting a very good deal.
Never going to beat Warriors by outscoring/outshooting them. Smart could be a part of a team that beats them by out-defending them and just scoring enough.

Ainge wants 5 starters on the court who have the ability to score 20 a night. Thats the main goal. Only players who can do that will be paid star value monies.
Smart isn't either of those things, as much as we all love him.

It's not "wrong by him", but barring any other offers to match if they are in range, I think Danny has to come in below what he offered in the fall. Otherwise, he has undercut the incentive that players have to accept an extension when offered like that.

Great news. If Sacramento are out we should see Smart back in green.
This made sense all along; they have Fox/Hield/Mason to build around in their backcourt and signing Marcus would hurt their ability to land a stud SF or big man in free agency. More generally Marcus isn't a guy who would be really valuable to a rebuilding team.

Yeah. Perimeter defense is critical to matching up with Golden State. No one's better than Smart.

Didn’t stop us from dumping Bradley. And Smart has off court issues we all know about. He cost himself millions punching a picture frame or whatever lame excuse it was

Except the only time the warriors lost in the finals is when Kyrie did exactly that to Curry

I kind of like the 1-year $6M QO solution. Maybe $8M so it is trade-able. That gives them cover in case they have to flip Kyrie by February. And they can always pay through the nose if TRo doesn't show he's risen to his potential this year as well.

I think too much is being assumed regarding his demands. Impatience aside, a large part of this equation is that Marcus has little motivation not to wait for a good offer, and Danny has little motivation to close the door on any potential trades involving a sign and trade.

I think you misinterpreted what I said, I'm saying I don't think Boston will do wrong by Marcus (As in give him a value contract, we won't lowball him) he's too valuable.
