Takes effect when?

Is this where the 2020 draft becomes the deepest of all time?

The NCAA's constant scandals have diminished their value to the league.

The league doesn't need them with the G-League and even overseas being just as viable of a vehicle for player development.

All of those kids who prematurely jumped out of HS back in the day would today have a place to learn & develop while earning a few bucks and keeping their dreams alive. It's not longer NBA or bust for these kids.

I honestly dont like it. A lot of kids are going to opt out of going to college now. It was better in the past because only 1 or 2 kids here and there would enter...but now with the NBA all about player development and what not, we are going to see a lot more kids being drafted and the NCAA going to take a hit. I enjoy watching these top prospects play college ball.

good. it was stupid.

teams need to scout properly. of course kids are going to try to get the jobs. doesn't mean the actually qualified ones should be shut out.

and with the g-league becoming a more viable option and two-way contracts proving useful, you might even see the NBA draft expand rounds again. a third round could be in order if we're really building up farm systems and junior clubs.
RIP magnumt

welcome home, thibs.

The league still is not ready to develop talent properly. D league rosters and salary needs to be expanded , teams need to start paying big money for developmental coaches in the G league. More summer league games are needed for youngsters. More two way roster spots need ro be negotiated.

Good.

Apparently, ratings for summer league have been way up. That should be a good indicator that ESPN would be able to market a G-League with more star prospects in it. E.g. when the NBA removes the age limit.

That's just it. It's an opportunity to make the G League more important in general.

This issue, to me, is Silver's legacy. Getting rid of Scumbag Sterling was a nice piece but this is much bigger both in terms of potential revenue, the quality of the league, and eliminating the moral quandary of treating professionals as amateurs.

You think it's bad now with teams having to risk picking unproven kids it will only get worse.

Plus so many of these kids from poorer upbringing who really have no shot at the NBA as young as they are are going to be baited by agents into declaring for the draft then lose out on getting a chance at college and an education.

I'm not sure it will be for the better.
If you'd rather see your team fail so you can be right
...you are a fan of your opinion not the team.

This puts more of a premium on scouting.

It was fine before the rule, and it’ll be fine after. On average, players that don’t go to school fair a lot better than players that do. Any talk of income and upbringing reeks of racial paternalism. Hockey and baseball do just fine.

Not really for this rule. They added this because the drafts started putting out more busts from HS than players and they realized it was ineffective...but history repeats itself.

I say if they're getting rid of one and done, they should make it so that if you go to college, you have to stay for 2 years before declaring for the draft
