Poll: Vince carter for vet minimum

Post#1 » by captain green » Wed Jul 11, 2018 9:25 pm

I voted yes. Just because we could say say we had 2 of the best dunkers of all time. Wilkes and carter. No real need for him but I've been watching summer league and he's been begging for call. it would be cool if he was top 20 in points on our team. Yet another celtic involved in the record books.

I know that most contending teams want to do exactly this sort of thing, and fill out their depth with known quantities. But, in my opinion, we're so deep through at least the first ten that we're better off using our tail-end-of-the-roster minimum spots to take some chances on trying to uncover some potential long-term contributors, like Bird, rather than on ultra short stopgaps.

Why? He would never play and his minimum is north of 2 million. I’d rather have Bird on the roster.

No team is ever responsible for more than the equivalent of the 2-year vet minimum, on any minimum contract. The league pays the rest, and that league-paid amount is not included in tax calculations.

Edit: I guess the way this reads, it's any one year minimum contract.

When a player has been in the NBA for three or more seasons, and is playing under a one-year, 10-day or Rest-of-Season contract at the minimum salary, the league reimburses the team for part of his salary -- any amount above the minimum salary for a two-year veteran. For example, the minimum salary for a two-year veteran in 2017-18 is $1,471,382, so for a ten-year veteran, with a minimum salary of $2,328,652, the league would reimburse the team $857,270. Only the two-year minimum salary is included in the team salary, not the player's full salary. They do this so teams won't shy away from signing older veterans simply because they are more expensive than younger veterans.

I'm not pro-Carter. It's just that that's not a reason to be anti-Carter. The difference between Bird's minimum and the portion of Carter's minimum we would be responsible for is about $163k. [1]

Cool thanks. I did not know that. Still would rather have Bird.

I think Vince mentoring Brown in practice every day would be far more beneficial than someone like Nader on the roster.

So I am a yes.

Smart leaves, Nader goes, Vince is an option.

If he hits one game-winning shot in a playoff game he was worth it.

It would also show what horrible people the Raptors are, not that any more evidence is ever needed.

If it is Jabari Bird versus old Carter, of course there is no Carter.

I remember a time, that lasted several decades, when fans of loser NBA teams would mock the Celtics and call them old. I didn't think they were old, just that they won all the games. Statistically, currently this is a young roster, so the aged Vince might be a good new addition. Adding Maravich, J Bagley, Derek Smith, the unknown Paxson even though he scored more than the other one, Artis Gilmore, these are traditional Celtics things so Vince is another for the list. Bing. This would be a fun list to think about. PJ Brown. Buckner, he was younger but looked old. Finley. Lister.

Not being rude, but attending a game in Toronto when Vince was there, it was terrible. I should have stopped the game, grabbed a microphone, and told those purple dinosaur freaks that basketball is about winning and playing a great team game, not hysterical children, and adults, having seizures because someone dunks the ball.

Carter has matured since those days, Raptors fans have regressed.

Real plus minus defense stats for positions.
Pg: smart 7th, larkin 17th, rozier 29th
Sg: vince carter 7th, brown 8th, kadeem allen 30th(8 games)
Sf: tatum 7th
Pf: horford 5th, thies 13th
C: baynes 3rd
Of course I only listed top 30 of each position for our team outside of vince.
But to say he isn't still solid being in top ten isnt bad. However I just made the poll because of the dunking stuff. When we got Dominique I was still excited to see a shell of his self in green same with Shaq. But I don't think it would hurt to have carter as our 3rd sg or sf of the bench.
