I think its actually funny that you are using career statistics for trying to **** on Detfink's statement when you literally typed on this board the other day that Hicks is a 380 OBP, 850 OPS and 20 SB kind of player. Meanwhile in your world for knowing EXACTLY who a player is going to be let me clue you in on something.

Aaron Hicks career at bats: 1,540

Career Batting Average and On Base Percentage:

.231 BA/ .316 OBP

And I get it, you want to use Hicks 300 AB's last year as some sort of absolute, unequivocal concrete data that speaks to you thinking he is the player you claim he is. But there is an extremely high chance that you are dead wrong. That Hicks is nothing more than a 348 OBP, 244 BA, 780 OPS type of player. The best part is I really don't like Austin AT ALL. I just don't know why the concept of him potentially hitting 270, even when he said he wouldn't bet on that in Vegas would seem to irritate you that much.

Ahhh yes. My favorite thing to do. Find old posts of people berating me, yet being unequivocally incorrect.

Hicks is 45th in the entire MLB for pitchers and hitters combined in WAR.

Hicks is top 30 in OPS in the entire MLB.

Hicks is 25th in SLG.

Hicks is an elite glove with ++ speed.

Tyler Austin is still a career .228 hitter in MLB level in 268 AB's and currently in AAA.

Didn't know Hicks was up that high in those stats. Interesting.

Also Tyler Austin sucks haha. At least he threw down against the Red Sox in that mini brawl.

im not feeling giving up sheffield for manny but i'm also lower on sheffield than most. would like to see him against MLB hitters first though. but this is from an outsider fan's perspective.

the actual front office will be looking at sheffield's spin rates and whatnot to make a decision. i feel that a guy with his weakness, command, would not be served well by the yankees pitching philosophy of no fastballs though.

the more interesting thing is whcih pitcher they are targeting with andujar.

Don't trade Sheffield for Machado. Don't trade Sheffield at all. They need pitching more than anything. No need to give up a promising young one.

i dont know why they didnt bringing sheff up for a test run in say, a cessa's spot. maybe they think his command isn't there or the more advanced numbers they have don't look good. if he has say 3 good starts that's just going to boost his value a lot.

His value is already high if Orioles really are requesting him in a deal for Machado. Yanks might as well not risk his value at this point and see what he could do when the deadline passes. For now, it would be a start if they even just add him to the 40-man.

Sheffield gives me Joba/Hughes/Kennedy vibes. But I don't want to trade him for Machado, we need to trade him for an ace.

Yeah think many don’t get that you can’t just shuttle guys bc once a player goes to 40 man roster, options become limited with movement. Sheff will naturally come up when rosters expand in Sept unless he’s stupidly traded.

Pitchers are super hard to project out, few would’ve thought that Kennedy would’ve been the best guy from that group. And admittedly, pitchers seem to do so much better when they leave the Yanks.

Who was our pitching coach during those years? Guidry?

The Yankees currently have two open spots on their 40 man roster if they were to put Montgomery on the 60 day DL. They could get Sheffield on it if they wanted. I think they are just waiting for the deadline to pass at this point to see what happens. Keep their flexibility moving forward.

That would be a lot for a rental, but I’d do it if I feel her sign an extension.

No way Manuela won't at least test the market.

If the Yankees are the team he wants to come to there's no reason for him to test it.

If we get Machado, we'd probably have to bat a righty first. I assume we'd also move Andujar for an ace in this scenario.

Machado
Hicks
Judge
Bird
Stanton
Sanchez
Didi
Torres
Gardner

Florial and Abreu would be an insanely high price to pay for a rental. Machado is a great player and an obvious upgrade but what happens with Andujar in this scenario? Does he go for a pitcher in a separate trade? Seems like a waste of some of our top assets.

Also, nice to see Bird heating up.
