Toronto is the only team who was willing to trade for him without a guarantee that he will even show up to play. Pretty sure San Antonio just turned a rotten tomato into at least a serviceable grocery store tomato, certainly not a fancy heirloom, but better than nothing.

I understand that, but they couldn't at least squeeze OG out of the deal? This might be the worst return for a superstar player I've ever seen.

Yeah thats why i said that SAS definitely gave up value and caved. This was apparently the best SA had been offered and they estimated to not get a better package in the future.. Derozen at least keeps them competitive.. I agree SA should of held out for OG or Siakam..the first is protected until the 20s i think too

I bet Spurstalk is having quite the little meltdown.

Bingo. Was never hapoening. Thank god Danny is an adult.

I wish I could pull up every single time one of those clowns on the trade board said this would be different than PG/Boogie.

Yup. Some will say..thats what this thread was for, but I say it just proves how some lack true knowledge of asset value. Then they pollute the discussion with insane trade peoposal they actually would do.

I'm surprised that neither the Clippers nor the Lakers didn't offer more than this. I would have opted for all that Laker youth, that is, if indeed it was offered. Maybe Pop was serious about not trading to a conference competitor.

This has what exactly to do with me saying they won't get Leonard or George in multiple threads?

Cave/Valid/others disagreed. Many others said it was a lock for them to aquire one of those players. It wasn't. My take was correct.

All your post does is reinforce my point. Even with Lebron, they couldn't get George or KL this year.

You said 'don't believe the LA media hype'? I guess I'm confused on what that means? Does it mean players don't wan't to be in LA like the media thinks?? Or does it mean that LA can't seal the deal for these players? Because Leonard demanded to go to LA. PG also wanted to go to LA and said he was disappointed that they didn't trade for him.

When Jeanie was posting stuff like "never underestimate" and Shelburne/the ESPN LA people were incinuating that it was a 100% lock to acquire George or Leonard, I strongly disagreed. LA media hype, LA forum hype, etc, were all incorrect. People assumed these players would end up there (even more so after Bron) based on nothing but the distant past and an inconsistent "championship" culture. They believed that LAL would get them because they are LAL. That's not how this league works and hasn't for some time, Bron or not. That's how current GS works.

LA got a huge dose of reality this offseason.

Well, I think it's a lock that those players wanted to be in LA. Whether or not the front office can pull it off is another thing. Media probably has too much confidence in the front office. They did hit on Bron. Which is huge. They didn't want to give up the farm for Kawhi. But that's still TBD because dudes a free agent next summer. The PG thing was surprising though. I think he'll come to regret that decision.

The fact that they even got Poeltl and a possible pick is a win for them. SA didn't have much leverage here. It was either take the trash LA was offering.... or have Derozan.

And people here were throwing out some ridiculous packages.

Yea. I think everyone thought they were competing with LA's offer, who most thought would offer Ingram, Kuz and picks. But apparently that wasn't the case. Lol. Sucks.

Good assessment:

I'm glad this Kawhi saga is over. Listen, none of us should be that surprised here. Things we knew:

#1- He wanted out of SA
#2- Spurs didn't want to deal him in the West
#3- Boston and Philly weren't willing to include key pieces without assurance that Kawhi would extend
#4- Kawhi wasn't going to extend
#5- A mystery team (we threw the Bucks, Raptors and Heat as possibilities) would ultimately get him

Boom, done. Have fun in Toronto with Drake you weird-o. Celtics over Raptors in 6 in the East Finals

Nah. I don't like this for the Spurs at all. DeRozan is a grossly overrated player on a bad contract and the Spurs couldn't even swipe Anunoby in the deal. Awful deal for them.

I agree, but I imagine Pops can make DeRozan even more overrated and a disgruntled and rusty Kawhi underachieves all year while his first time coach tries to Nurse his fragile ego.

Hot take: Raptors flip Kawhi for Ingram and Deng by years end.

It'll be interesting to see how this fares for Toronto, will they get all-NBA Kawhi or petulant hide from the team brass Kawhi? Either way they either landed a superstar cheap or kick started their rebuild by dumping DD's salary, great gamble by them. As for the Spurs they managed to turn a **** situation into an over payed but still very talented DD (also probably more motivated than ever, he seems pretty salty), a decent young big in Poetl, and a mediocre pick. I hope DD get's his anxiety issues in order and thrives in SA, I'd love to see those west teams have to work even harder in the playoffs.

Fingr you see him around Maine anymore or just that once? He might be on the way back to the wine store today...

FWIW I like this deal for both sides. Cool trade. And the don’t-trade-Jaylen side wins! Otherwise I was going to be watching this season from afar buried on that hill..

Also, LOL @ all the Raptors fans criticizing Ainge for dealing IT. Masai looked DD in the face and said he wont be trading him. And then did it. Time to crash off your pedestal’s.

My prediction too if Kawhi continues to act like a diva. But no way Lakers are parting with Ingram. Kuzma, Deng, and a 1st just so they don't waste a year of Lebron's last legs.

Clippers could top that.

Can't believe that was the best they could do.

That's a terrible deal for SA. They're screwed.

Dude. Think about that risk, look at it on paper. San Antonio makes mistakes, but if they pulled the trigger on this, it certainly was the best option on the table.

Well let's see. Pop and Buford turned this dumpster fire into a Top 15 All-NBA player (whatever your personal biases are) who can get you 25/5/5, the #9 pick in the draft from 2 years ago and a conditional 1st round pick. They get the added bonus of giving both LAL/Magic and Kawhi himself the middle finger for all their crap. I think San Antonio did a TREMENDOUS job in this deal. And that's before you even get to their team now.

DM (All-Defensive), DDM, RG, LMA, Gasol with Mills, Belli, Manu, and Poertl off the bench. San Antonio was what- 6th last year without Kawhi/DDM, 3 games out from 3rd? Houston got worse this offseason. Besides Golden State, tell me a team in the West that they're not at least on par with? And Pop is still Pop on the bench.
and that's "MR. Irrelevant" to you!!
