Can we stop bringing up Politics on the Knicks board already? Everyday it's a new post with biased opinions that ends up being locked anyway. There are places on this site where you can go talk politics freely with all sorts of people.

Read the threads that you want to read.

That leaves others free to engage in the threads you don't care to participate in.

If you do choose to participate in political or social issue threads then all you have to do is provide valid factual support for what you state if you make claims that appear fictitious.

If a mod says what's your factual basis for your assertion and you've got nothing then you can accept that you've got nothing and move on or reset and elevate your research.

Politics are by their very definition biased. If you cannot provide facts to support your biases then you can choose not to participate, but what it does not entitle you to do is claim that standard is unfair.

Whether the heat in the kitchen gets intense or not is not the point.

Whether you can debate while being held to a higher standard is.

Don't complain about the implementation of more rigorous standards, especially if that means people you are sympathetic with (i.e. biases you side with) are shut down because they can't comply. If they can't comply with being fact-based then they don't belong in the kitchen in the first place. Your choice.

Let me clarify something. The mods are volunteers. They are not compensated. Any time they spend moderating is by their own free will and if they were completely out of touch with the general desires of the user population they would not be able to do their job without the site being abandoned by that base.

Apparently, their general consensus is close enough to the general population to remain relevant. You may not like it, but a forum is NOT a democracy. It is NOT a test case for free speech. It is a consensus environment that exists on its own terms. If you don't like those terms, you can go inhabit another forum.

For years anything posted like this had immediately been pushed to the right forum to continue discussion.

The Knicks forum has gone through cycles of having very active social and political OT threads.

The difference now is this:

We are a microcosm of a global and national trend regarding social discourse on online platforms.

And that trend involves setting standards for your platform. Look at Facebook. They're only setting some standards, albeit flimsy ones, due to congressional inquiries due to their role in facilitating the Russian infiltration of Facebook.

RealGM has had to catch up with the times just like everyone else because this new era of the distribution of false facts has not been easy for anyone to deal with.

And what you are seeing now is a coherent response to that issue ON THE KNICKS FORUM specifically, because RealGM has not adopted any protocols and leaves it up to the moderating team of each forum.

You don't like it? Too bad. I've explained why it is fair and here you are continuing to whine about what are truly FAIR STANDARDS you seem uninterested in supporting.

It wasn't easy for them. I know for a fact I was one of the biggest obstacles on the Knicks forum because I would take the bait of others. So, in order to make the mods job easier, I stopped taking the bait of others and I'm willing to play fair.

It is just that it doesn't jive with your politics that you would say that, because it appears you are willing to align yourself only with people who can't comply with the directive to back up their assertions with facts when a mod requests it. That's on you, not the mods

Let me just add on to this as a mod

Our policy with the political threads is if you make a statement based on facts, then you must provide verifiable sourcing. While not everyone may agree with the statements that Clyde_Style makes, they are always backed up by sourcing. Users such as Bill Pidto, who was banned for his comments, do not properly source their fact based statements, and when they are called out on that, they lie about why they've been warned.

You can like Trump, but if you want to post about the Democrats having an underground child sex dungeon in a pizza shop, that's not gonna fly unless you have a legitimate source. And with respect to the incident with Fury, yes he was in the wrong for personal attacks. However the policy of this board, at least the way it is implemented, is that we allow posters 2nd chances before taking action. If Fury had continued his personal attacks despite being told to stop, he would have been banned as well

His point should be acknowledged. Fury cursed myself and several others to bits before just for offering a different political viewpoint and absolutely nothing was done. One of the mods wrote “I get it, but please stop the personal attacks”. Yet here you are telling Bill Pidto to take a hike when he’s presenting a valid point. So the first time we see someone use a personal attack in a thread, we ask or tell them to stop, and if they don't, they receive warnings, and if they continue after that, they will be suspended or banned, depending on the severity of the attack

I’m not reading these long useless defensive posts. I didn’t post anything that contained false facts or anything of the sort. I’m not sticking up for anyone in particular. I’m telling you guys what I’ve seen on here. Fury blasting myself and others with ridiculous language and nothing else not once, not twice, but at least three time in a matter of 2 pages. There’s no rock I’m crawling out from under. I enjoy reading posts on this forum and post when I get freedom from my job or family. Just because I’m not commenting on every single thread doesn’t make me a lurker. I’m simply asking for you guys to clean it up because this board isn’t enjoyable when that crap is involved. first you're here to address the problem of namecalling. we explain the circumstances of the problem you cite with great detail that you're not entitled to (because we keep our actions with members private). we publicized one such scenario JUST to appease you.

but now the problem is indeed differing opinions. so let's keep it real. "stick to basketball" always comes out when someone doesn't want to discuss the non-basketbal issue at hand. but... that's why they have their own threads that you can choose to lurk or not lurk. instead, people prefer to derail instead of engage respectfully.
