Depends on the price tag for Kemba tbh. I think this will be a playoff team next year with or without KD and Kemba is a really under-rated dude...so if we got him on a fair contract that we could move for an asset, if at any point a true A-lister wanted to join the Knicks, I wouldn’t hate it. And if we get KD, then I’d much rather have Kemba or Middleton helping form the team around KD, KP and the kids with our remaining potential cap space; than THJ + a late first in 2020 *shrug*

I’m a big Frank fan, and I want him to spend a lot of time as the “primary ball handler” this year for his development...but I don’t have any issues with pairing him up with an all star PG that he could learn from and take over for in the long run. Would set up a smooth succession for us at that position while helping the young core start taking steps.

If KP was two years younger and we could rack up another top 10 pick next year, then I’d be much more opposed to it and in favor of using our cap space to add assets this year while rebuilding for another year...but KP makes a top 10 pick unlikelyz. And if we’re gunna be a playoff team I’d rather get the kids some help and put them in a position to succeed.

So you would sign Kemba to a 5 year contract because I think that's what it's going to take. Maybe you're right. I'm a little gun shy of these type of moves this off season. I'm looking more towards 2020 or 2021

Nah, but we can only offer him a 4 year deal. And I’m fine with that if he’s coming alongside KD and at a tradeable price. I think he’d be good for the length of a 4 year deal...even if Frank turns him into a 6th man by the final season if all goes well.

And if he’s at a tradeable price then we can Avery Bradley him should an A- lister want to join us and that cap space not already be dedicated to KD.

yeah, i'd bring kemba home if he were coming with KD for the rest of the cap. but i can't see that. kemba doesn't need to take any shorts. unless KD is the one who sacrifices. kemba is in that 30% range, so we could start him at like $30m and KD take a $6m pay cut to start at around $32m. renounce EVERYONE. fill the rest of the team with vet min and exception players.

you're now all-in with:

kemba
frank
knox
KD
KP

bench:
trier (if he takes a mitch deal for like $1.5m)
dotston
mitch
a collection of minimum and exception journeypeople and ring chasers?

$62m question: is this a championship contender?
RIP magnumt

thanks for everything, thibs.

Some of you set yourselves up to be disappointed... the media has a job - a job to SELL! And because this fanbase is so STARVING for a winner, many will take a made up story of "This player's uncle's father's cousin works within the organization and is recruiting this star player" and next thing you know: The Knicks are getting such & such. And then when it doesn't happen guys get disappointed and blame the FO when in reality the superstar never considered NY in the first place. LOL. #FAKENEWS

Rachel Nichols graduated from the Chris Broussard school of journalism. That being, the customer (player) is ALWAYS right. She takes just about anything said as gospel.

This is no more apparent than when Bill Simmons said on the Ringer (in relation to the Melo trade), "When James Harden was traded for Kevin Martin, Rachel SWORE OKC was being honest when they said it wasn't about the money (lux tax)." Yeah, it really was about the money. OKC knew James wanted to get PAID and that would push their lux tax over the threshold...because it's OKC.

So when Rachel Nichols said, "Durant will sign with the Knicks..." She's punking the Knicks without realizing it.

While I agree.... I'd bet ANYTHING & I've read it. We got guys here who BELIEVE KD is going to:

* Leave GS to rebuild NY because LeBron left Cleve to rebuild LA
* Leave GS so that he can play with Porzingis
* Leave GS because he has ties to NY
* Leave GS because it's a better marketing city
* Leave GS because he like a freakin social media post about Frank :noway:

Don't want 31 year old KD and the 7th seed.
Don't want obliterated knee Kyrie and the 7th seed.

It's pointless. Also, if the plan was to sign a max then we should have kept Noah right up until the signing. We could potentially have gotten off his salary by trading for a non-guaranteed (giving up something in the process) or barring that just done exactly what Dumb and Dumber just did earlier this week by stretching him.

There's the why also, unless KP comes back in February and plays better than he did the first month of last year he has no competitive reason to come here. We're too young. All of the following would have to happen

KP comes back and he's back to All NBA first 2 months 2017 KP, elite defensively and improved efficiency on offense.
Knox shows starter level defense and is in the conversation for rookie of the year.
Frank cements his place as an NBA starter, makes an all defense team and shoots 36%+ from 3.
Tim Hardaway retires to become a monk and his salary comes off the books.
We lose enough to get a top 3 pick which we either use on an impact player or trade for a young star.

Honestly, if we get him or another high profile FA then cool. If not, I'm ready to roll with this young group. The more we develop and continue to build the foundation, the better chance we have at landing someone down the road whether it's this offseason or another.

No big deal either way.

...KD alone gets homecourt advantage in the 1st round in the east; KD with KP goes to the ECF or Finals in year 1...

Who the F knows what drives these guys? Who saw Kyrie leaving LeBron when he appeared to have a perfect situation in Cleveland? Who predicted LeBron would leave the Cavs AGAIN after he returned in 2014? Who called Paul George going from essentially telling the world he was booked for the Lakers while on the Pacers to not even taking a meeting with them before staying in Oklahoma?

My guess is KD will stay with the Warriors, but I am not going to pretend I have the slightest idea what these guys want.

I believe KD is the only guy that gives Knicks a chance to contend.

I would be very happy if we managed to trade Knox as I don't believe he will be anything special in this league. I find him similar to guys like Mudiay and THJ - guys that are aggressive (in terms of taking many shots), but struggle with efficiency and don't really make the team better.
