Re: Trade Thread 2: Make your offers here
just try to get Lopez contract away without taking salary back or have him as filler in a bigger deal for a SF. I'd actually like Porter if they take on Felicio. Could Keep Lopez as a better backup, yep he has to accept that he won't start on many Teams.
This would really help.

With the Suns having Warren signed long term and the drafting of Mikal Bridges wonder if they would trade Josh Jackson?

I was just about to suggest this. I went over to the Suns board and they're really low on him ala Chriss/Bender. If it's a reasonable price tag, I'd be all for taking a flier.
Wonder if something based on Portis for Jackson interests them at all.
What gives me some hope for Jackson is that he plays hard, he seems like a hard worker, and based on college at least, he seemed to have a good feel for the game. Unfortunately for him right now, he hasn't really put anything together at the NBA level. The worst thing is he flat out cannot shoot, and that's killing his game, but on top of that, he's out of control and can't finish at the rim, he can't create, the speed of the game hasn't slowed down for him, and his defense is a mixed bag.
He is ranking 312/314 of all NBA players in PER right now with a PER of -0.2.
I almost feel like he's a similar prospect to Hutchison - has tools on both ends of the floor with athleticism, passing/feel, defensive potential, etc., but he can't unlock any of it to become a positive player until he becomes at least close to an average league shooter. Hutchison plays more within himself and is less dynamic, Jackson is a bit more out of control and much more of a net negative right now, but the flip-side is his potential is obviously high if he can put it together.
Do we want to invest in yet another young player? Maybe having he and Hutch as the two SF's, and relying on both of them to unlock their shooting at some point, is a weak bet that'll end up creating dysfunction at the position. And maybe investing in a flier like Jackson backfires and wastes a valuable asset such as Portis in this scenario. But the Suns are likely to want to sell while they have value after the dead value that was Bender and Chriss, and Josh is a #2 pick that definitely had oodles of potential coming out. And we know the Bulls have been swayed by guys with high draft slots the last few years.
My feeling is that Jackson's shooting is a long way off, and may never be serviceable. But it's early days, and if we're trading a guy like Portis, betting on Jackson working out his swing-skill might be better than taking the odds on a pick we might get out of Bobby otherwise. And in theory, Jackson is an upside play whose archetype fits in reasonably well with what we want out of our SF given our current pieces. I'd probably say yes to a straight swap.

The FO needs to stop targetting big men and focus on the likes of Oubre, JJ so they can hopefully imitate C's Tatum and Brown combo.
Lamelo will be a future superstar Bull. Book it. Lavar for president!

Re: Trade Thread 2: Make your offers here
Here's my thoughts for this season:
No Moves: (Only making upgrades to the roster for playoff pushes. Bulls have no one interesting to offer them):
Boston
Denver
Golden State
Houston
Indiana
Milwaukee
New Orleans
Philadelphia
Utah
No Moves: (Maintaining cap space to sign FAs this offseason):
Brooklyn
Chicago ($49m in "coming off the books" salaries for next season)
Dallas
LA Lakers
Phoenix
Sacramento
Cap Space Buyers: (going to take on bad contracts for draft picks)
Atlanta
Cleveland
Memphis
Orlando
Potential Asset Sellers: (Might be willing to attach draft picks to move these players [18m-19m means $18m owed next season, $19m owed 2020 season])
Charlotte (everyone)
Detroit (Leuer 10m, Galloway 7m)
Miami (everyone)
LA Clippers (Gallinari 22m)
Minnesota (Teague 19m, Dieng 16m-17m)
New York (Hardaway Jr 17m-19m, Lee 12m)
OKC (Shroder 16m-16m, Grant 9m-9m, Patterson 5m)
Portland (Leonard 11m, Harkless 12m, Turner 19m)
San Antonio (Pau Gasol 7m, Bertans 7m, Belinelli 6m)
Washington (Mahinmi 16m)
All that for this:
I don't think the Bulls are going to do anything roster wise, instead focusing on keeping the books clean in order to compete for FAs which we will inevitably fail to get, leading us to drop a 4 year $72m contract on Portis to compensate for the front office failures while seeming like "they got the guy they wanted all along!" But if you're in the Hinkie Process club, then here is an idea to get some picks.
To Washington:
Robin Lopez
for
Ian Mahinmi
Lottery Protected 1st
-Washington is capped out and could use the $16m savings next season to fill in the roster around Wall, Beal, and Porter Jr. Mahimi and Lopez are basically the same player so they don't lose anything in terms of "competing" this year.
And
To New York Knicks:
Jabari Parker
Justin Holiday
for
Tim Hardaway Jr
Courtney Lee
Top 8 Protected 1st
-New York gets rid of $29m in contracts which lets them chase Butler and Irving (or whoever they want to pair with Porzingis) for the next few years. They aren't competing this year anyway, so trading scrubs for expiring scrubs makes sense.
Next season:
PG: Hardaway Jr, Dunn
SG: LaVine, Lee
SF: Valentine, Hutchison
PF: Markannen, Portis if retained
C: Carter Jr, Mahinmi
and three 1st round picks
This sets us back 1 year in terms of FA hunting. But the plus side is that we'd have $47m coming off the books to chase FAs in 2020.

That is a lot of thinking!
I don't see the Knicks doing anything except trying to dump Lee. Hardaway is a SG not a PG, so it doesn't help us anyway.

It doesn't necessarily help us win more playoff games now, no. Athough the SG/PG designations tend to go out the window when debating is player X better than Cameron Payne for 30 minutes per game
But there would be merit in debating whether in the long run extra 1st round draft picks are worth the cap space loss. I personally think no, and that the Bulls won't make any moves, but others would disagree with me I'm sure. The only reason the Knicks would do the trade would be if they thought they could attract 2 max level FAs to team with Porzingis.

Would Houston do this:
Brandon Knight and a 2nd round pick for holiday and Felicio.
Rockets get an Ariza-like replacement. And a backup center which they don’t really have with nene out.
Brandon Knight is pretty much useless for them anyway. Hasn’t played in over a year.
We get out of felicios contract and gain a second round pick.

Didn't realize that Knight contract has another year on it...yuck. Felicio is dog poop, but he's on a declining deal although 2 years left. Holiday is an expiring.
If we could somehow do that deal without taking back Knight's contract, I do that. I wonder if you sub Rolo for Shrek and try to get a 1st back.

Dunn, Holiday, Valentine, Portis top 5 protected pick in 2019 for Ingram and Ball and top 5 protected pick in 2019.

LA.
I can't see us putting an attractive deal that pries Ingram from LA. They don't have any bad contracts to take back in exchange from Holiday or RoLo, and Portis doesn't give them much.

I'm not ready to give up Dunn or Hutchison yet, but Portis or Valentine I'd be okay with trading. I'm also not sure if Phoenix is willing to give up on him yet. Imagine if they drafted Fox instead of JJ?

Felicio is at 8 million a year while Lopez is at 14 million a year plus Parker is at 20 million a year that's 42 million a year on those 3 guys and wall is 28 years old
