Virtually everyone that’s great has a chip on their shoulder. In the case of russ I think if he had made a couple he would have started going to the basket. It’s almost like he can’t quit shooting until he satisfies himself that he can make them. That being said, his shot is worse than ever. I hope it’s conditioning and rust but at some point we may have to accept reality. He’s still great at times. He was great last night. He wasn’t the same player last year that he was his mvp year. We blamed a lot of it on Melo and trying to accommodate the new guys. If he can stay healthy then at some point he needs to get close to what he was in 2016. Maybe not the massive numbers but maybe occasionally getting a field goal attempt and free throw shot passed the front of the rim. If he doesn’t improve, I think we have our answer.

I think there's got to be a sort of pathology to a person who can go 1 of 12 and just keep letting it rip while his teammates who aren't terrible just stand there twiddling their thumbs. This is not the 2016-17 season. Semaj Christon isn't coming off that bench. He's got help. There's no excuse for him to play that way. AND then, (this is the kicker) in other games not play like that. Can literally shoot no threes for several games and to play entirely within the team flow. Demonstrating he understands what he needs to do and what works. But he just randomly forgets it and has some sort of brain fart about this. THAT is what is incredibly weird about him.

he has poor game sense and always has, relative to his peers. but then again, when you've spent your whole career in a place where everyone is telling you to just be yourself i mean.. what is the result supposed to be? others have been like russ in certain ways. jordan, kobe, those types. but russ never got the same kind of support structure those two received which curtailed their self-destructive tendencies. russ only got tacit approval, especially post-kd.

this is what makes russ a table test player, in the words of bill simmons (originally used to describe gary payton). russ might be the ultimate table test guy. he puts so much on the table, maybe more than any contemporary aside from lebron, but at the same time he takes away more than any other superstar.

That was tooooough to watch, it's times like this that I wish we had some vet to slap some sense into Westbrook when he does **** like this.

But like you've all said we don't and he likely wouldn't change anyway.

But dude, regardless of what his environment has been the fact is he's 30 years old. Most 30 year olds I know (actually most 21 year olds as well) can assess data gathered from their own life experiences and use it to guide subsequent behavior. Russ doesn't. He'll play great several games. Then he'll have a game like this.

Hell, if it came out he was schizophrenic would it actually surprise anyone that much? I'd be like, 'wow, it finally makes sense.'

Yup, I'm pretty sure you've replied to a few of my comments on there too. I'm the Donovan hater that's tired of arguing about it with our fan base :D

What bothers me the most is those 12 threes Westbrook took could have been better looks for himself, Adams, Schroder, or George.

What upsets me the most when Westbrook plays like this is that we have other players who are capable of scoring and who work their ass off only to see Westbrook piss the game away.

Nope, just saying rather this than the Harden not showing enough effort side

I don’t consider Westbrook settling for bad shots effort. Effort from Westbrook would look like him working to get his co-workers or himself better looks rather than jacking up 12 threes.

It's pretty obvious what's wrong with the dude. Just look at the way he dresses, plays, and behaves. He's a narcissist. Likely a borderline sociopath.

He gets his co workers looks. He's not quitting. You can say a lot but he's never not giving effort.

i think it's irresponsible to speculate on the 'why' at least insofar as his mental processes go.

i mean, from russ' perspective hasn't his m.o. worked just fine? got him an mvp, kept george around, got him $200 million and eternal gratitude from okc fans.

i dunno. fact is this is how westbrook is and it's something the team has to deal with. watching it happen in the playoffs last year was the swan song for any hope left in me he would change in this respect.

Was at work, and putted the game replay on the tv, and people around me who dont even watch basketball started asking me questions who is this guy chucking all the threes and making dumb decisions in the crunchtime.

The biggest problem in this all will be that no one is going to address this stuff.
There is no one in this orga that is gonna sit down with this lad and tell him the right stuff.
And we're gonna repeat the same discussion somewhere in December.

These are the only two options left if youre trying to stick up for Russ after that. Thought Dom might be busy on here defending his boi
