Re: WELCOME DEANDRE AYTON!!!!
its actually crazy how little respect he gets lmao.
What has JJJ done to get so much respect? i watched them play each other earlier in the season and Ayton dropped 24/8/5 on him while he got into foul trouble and looked useless.
Blocks dont equal good defense hes been underwhelming on that end too. bizarre.

JJJ also plays with an amazing point guard and has an amazing passing and defensive center playing next to him. Not saying this should diminish anything he has done, but it sure makes his life easier. Give Ayton Conley and his numbers would skyrocket.

JJJ looks great on the defensive end. It just comes down to offense and rebounding vs defense. JJJ has a much better DRTG and DBPM, blocks shots. Also hits 3s. But their net rating is similar since Ayton is overall more efficient offensively and gets more boards.

I think on that Defensive FG% at the rim, Jackson was pretty high too, and we saw where Ayton was.

I posted on the rookies GB thread that JJJ will foul out on the Suns in 10 mins. A good player, who will excel on defense, but still just a role player IMO, 3rd - 4th option type of player on a championship team, think about Draymond Green.

Draymond Green is only 4th best player (but I think he is more important than Klay) because it's one of the best teams of all time. On most teams he'd be the second best player at worst.
These kind of 3D PF/Cs who can switch, help and protect the rim are rare. Ibaka seems like the only decent comparison but JJJ will probably be better than Ibaka's peak at some point and is already better at some things.

Yeah, like Ariza is killing it on the Suns, because he was a 4th option on the Rockets. You must be kidding.
Notice that I said 3rd-4th option on a CHAMPIONSHIP team, not some mediocre team.

Draymond is on a far different level than Ariza. Houston just had nice defenders to put on their shooters. They only had a better record because GS rested people all the time. Houston's not one of the best teams of all time, and losing Ariza actually was a huge loss for them, as we can see by their play this year.

I edited my post above. I'm talking about championship teams. And I don't believe Green is a 2nd option even on a contender.

I had to check the stats of another scrub,Shaquille O'neal, to believe it. But anyway, it doesn't matter, it's so much better if we had Draymond Green instead.

Suns fans like to covet thy neighbor's good for some reason. Deandre made JJJ his concubine when we played. He looked like a kid against Ayton. JJJ is a role player. Deandre demands doubles and constant contact as a 20 year old rookie playing in dysfunction. We lucked out with him and Booker.
Like the stat shows Point Book and Ayton are a terror. Get some better shooter outs there.

Seems to me we have the shooters, and that what we need are defense, rebounding, playmaking, and most of all, TIME.

This is something new. Who exactly are you refering to ? Daniels and Bender ? Warren improved, but still needs to prove it for a full season.
All other teams have a role player, who goes on fire in the games I have watched like Galloway for the Pistons. Who is this role player on the Suns ? I hope you don't count Cannan, who has a good shooting game once in a while.

Well, second options usually refer to scoring, so I agree with that. He's more of a Defensive monster, tone setter and distributor.

Re: WELCOME DEANDRE AYTON!!!!
I'm not the biggest Draymond Green fan, but he'd be a really good fit for this team if Point Booker was the plan for the future, although I'm not sure I want it to be. Big time defensive impact to help Ayton, good secondary playmaker to Booker, and a better rebounder than TJ at the 4. Probably would be a good mentor for Ayton and JJ on the defensive end too. Only problem is that he's not much of a shooter and he'll be getting up there in age once his next contract comes around while making a lot of money.

We have far more offensive players and palyers with offensive potential than defensive players. It would certainly help balance things out by having more competent defensive players

Re: WELCOME DEANDRE AYTON!!!!
Teams take it to the rim far more against us than any other team. 35.4% of their shots.

And we allow the 4th highest (tied) FG% at the rim.

I hope we can improve in these categories or it will be very tough to win much.

Re: WELCOME DEANDRE AYTON!!!!
That starts with perimeter defense and not allowing players to get into the paint and it ends with a big man protecting it at a high level

Re: WELCOME DEANDRE AYTON!!!!
Ayton became only the 4th rookie in 36 years with 300+ points and 200+ rebounds in their first 20 games. The others: Blake Griffin, Tim Duncan, Shaquille O’Neal. That’s it. Just three other rookies have been as prolific as Ayton.
