oddity wrote:Yeah of course Luka was named rookie of the west in November. Because he's clearly another league above Ayton. It is humiliating watching Ayton struggle against Boban and Javale McGee every knight while Luka plays winning basketball, carrying the Mavs to actual wins.

Including highlight blocks over LeBron.

Anyway, Ayton seems like he has a competitive spirit (based on his comments on Mamba from SL) so hopefully this does light that fire in him like someone else already said.

Wait wait ....

Luka is carrying the Mavs to wins now? Is he also carrying them to those 10 losses too? LOL

Makes you wonder what people would think if (a) Doncic were a King or (b) we drafted Doncic (wouldn't we still be bottom of the west, given the rest?) and the Kings drafted Ayton. What would people say?

Food for thought. This is a really tremendous rookie class. Personally, I would not exchange Ayton for any other draftee just yet. I still think his ceiling is the greatest.

..... But then, I've been optimistic about our picks pretty consistently after the fact. So WTF do I know, right?

Mr. Sarver.... why no GM? What's the holdup? And P.S. thanks for not panicking with trades since jettisoning NotMe. Stay patient. All will be forgiven, and much will be gained, if you win the chip.

He's one of the favorites which is good and expected from a #1 pick. If he wasn't even in the conversation as the #1 pick, then I'd be worried

You mean if he wasn't in the conversation for rookie of the year you'd be worried?

Yes, let me rephrase

If he wasn't in the ROY conversation as the #1 pick, I'd be worried

The couple of minutes I really paid attention in this game Ayton was complete garbage on defense. He's just watching guys go to the rim. Not moving a muscle. Just watching them do layups.

I don't get that at all. He's LITERALLY looking at the player driving towards the rim and he doesn't even step in the direction of the said player.

This is why I never bought the narrative that some have perpetuated that ticky tack fouls was why Ayton isn't playing with effort defensively.

Any good coach would have immediately pulled him to the bench. This has been happening since game 1, Igor has not kept him accountable.

He'll be an all star but if hes still a meh defender by the time hes 27 I'd be trading him. You cant have a team with a poor interior defender. The job is just too important.

Cant blame em. But it's obviously more so a product of our abysmal record and the Maverick's success. That being said, Luka has been their best player from the get go, leading them to a record above .500, and yeah, he is better than Ayton right now. Sucks to say but you can't deny that.

Hate to say it but ayton sucks .... good put back scorer and spoon fed scorer , decent passer , will get his rebounds

But dude has no energy , sucks on defense , and will not win more games for us ! We messed up the pick !

Welp, all the people that wanted to leave here because of "Ayton haters" won't find solace elsewhere...reddit, twitter etc. have the same arguments going on.

We wouldn't be in a much better spot if we had Luka now. The assumption was that if we took Luka, we would've taken or signed a rim protector to make the team more balanced. If we had taken Luka but didn't add a rim protector, we would still have the same defensive issues and likely still have issues getting high % buckets

The assumption with Ayton is that we would've taken (SGA) or signed a PG. We haven't done that. No matter who we took, that one player alone wasn't going to make us competitive.
