You don't wait until after a knee surgery to award a super max deal to a PG who relies on speed and athleticism; and who is approaching both 10 years in the league and 30 years of age.
On top of that isolation play Wall fails at least 80% of the time.

Re: Official Trade Thread -- Part XXXVII
Here's a Wall trade that makes really good sense for everyone:
Washington trades: John Wall
Washington receives: Terrence Ross (exp.), Michael Beasley (exp.)
Orlando trades: Terrence Ross, 2019 first (top 10 protection)
Orlando receives: Lonzo Ball, Lance Stevenson (exp.)
LA trades: Lonzo Ball, Lance Stevenson, Michael Beasley
LA receives: John Wall, ORL 1st (top 10 protected)
Why for Washington: We dump Wall and save $5.2M this year. It gets us within $1M of being completely out of the luxtax, and with the extra body we add, we could cut a non-guaranteed contract and get almost all of that remaining $1M off the books.
Why for Orlando: They trade expirings and a protected pick for their PG of the future.
Why for LA: They trade Ball for Wall, but also add a significant asset that they can use in other trades to acquire more win-now talent. I'm thinking a guy like Middleton might be available if Milwaukee doesn't want to pay him. They'd have the expiring contracts of KCP and Rondo plus their pick and the Orlando pick as assets to trade for talent.

So we're still close to the tax and get no assets in return?
I'll pass on this one.

Getting out of the tax this year is darn near impossible without trading picks. I've done it in this trade (or darn close to it). I reduced our luxtax penalty from $14M to maybe $1M, saving Ted about $18M total in the process. I thought it was really good.
I don't think we're going to get anything more for Wall at this point. We might be able to give him away in the summer to a team with excess cap room, but chances are we'll still take back a small, short dead weight contract in the process, and it does nothing to resolve our current luxtax woes. At least with this trade, we save lots of cash and get started with the tank while trying to improve the team culture. Dumping Morris (and hopefully Howard) will come next.
The bottom line is that we must dump Wall. This team is a disaster and a significant reset is needed.

I'd tweek it to make it more realistic: Make the Phoenix 1st rounder top 5 protected, and change Ingram to Josh Hart. As much as PIF likes Hart (and I do, too), I think the Lakers would much rather trade Hart than Ingram.
They'd have to add a mil in salaries if you sub Hart for Ingram. Not sure how much they like Bonga but it can work if they toss him in.

We get no draft picks out the trade?

No.
Obviously, if we could get picks, I'd be all for it. But I'd do the trade as is. Surely, if LA is content to just swap Lonzo for Wall without getting a pick as compensation, then I'd direct that Orlando pick to us. That would be fantastic.
I just don't think LA would do this. Maybe I'm wrong. EG managed to get a 1st round pick for Jamison after he signed that lousy contract, so I guess anything is possible.

i understand,But potentially getting no draft picks takes the excitement out of the trade.

Maybe do something creative like including an option for the Wiz to switch picks in a future year (2021?) with the Lakers - when Lebron will have lost a step or will decide he wants to play somewhere else.

I'm more interested in trading wall and dumping Ian and handing over the keys to Brad than I am anything else.

Beal looks more capable of being a #1 option this year than ever before. He's going to need Otto or Oubre to step up and take some of the pressure off though. Beal can score 25 a night, but it will be a lot easier if someone else can get 17 a night and at least draw some defensive attention.

Wall to the heat
Dragic and obure to the king's
Olynik, winslow and Randolph with what ever kind of second round pick package we can get form the king's and heat.
It's good for the king's because Kelly fits a need and they have money to resign him, dragic has a year on hi deal left and honest who would the king's sign ? These two guys help add talent to that team now and doesn't cost them much.
If the heat really want wall they part with dragic and Kelly and Winslow seem expendable.
Kelly and Winslow are both garunteed for o ly two more years , they are young decent players under reasonable contracts, that still equel like 10 mill less than walls upcoming annual yearly pay outs. We can use the seconds to try to move mahinmi or Morris or who ever to get under the tax preferably Ian!

This.
Its Brad's team already as far as i'm concerned. Wall + Beal had a chance to be the best back court in the L but it just didn't work out. Only one of those players has really improved their game and added new dimensions to it.
When Brad is on, he looks like Harden-lite who plays D.
Last year when Wall was injured "The wizards play better without wall" was something I fought against, mainly because of how good Wall had been previously, particularly in the playoffs. I think the sample size is large enough now that moving him on and giving Sato starting PG duties is the only way we get back to winning.

Well, in fairness, we took Mike Pence off their hands. Taking back Mahinmi is the least they can do.

I anticipate that it won't be long before Wall is truly untradable, even with the Wizards attaching multiple picks and other assets. That's going to be even less exciting.

I kinda like the Sam Dekker trade, RPM has always liked him, he has decent numbers. He plays hard and has basketball IQ. Good pickup and a RFA. Oubre insurance too, can play the 4. I say play him big minutes. Play Brown Jr, play Dekker, Play Bryant.

Wall has to be traded but man I kind of want to see now hectic the reactions would be if Wall stayed but Beal got traded, tbh.

Re: Official Trade Thread -- Part XXXVII
From Bobby Marks at ESPN.com +
Washington Wizards
Washington Wizards
What to watch: The entire roster
We didn't get to the 15-game mark of the season before a "for sale" sign was placed on the Washington roster. There are four options the front office can take.
1. Create a bidding war for All-Star Bradley Beal and look to cash in the most valuable trade piece.
2. Take back expiring contracts in exchange for Otto Porter Jr.
3. Identify the trade market for their eight expiring contracts. The Wizards are projected to be over the salary cap next season and will face a decision on their impending free agents before the deadline. They can retain in the offseason and continue to be a luxury-tax team, let the contracts expire (replacing them with minimum-salary players) or look to move an expiring contract for a second-round pick.
4. Do nothing, with the hope that the current roster can get into the playoffs.
As mentioned in late November, point guard John Wall has drawn little interest.
Restrictions/notes
Okaro White cannot be traded. His $1.2 million contract becomes guaranteed on Jan. 7.
Wall and Porter have 15 percent trade bonuses. The bonus for Porter is voided because it would exceed the max allowed. The bonus for Wall at the time of the trade deadline is worth $19.5 million. However, because the bonus would be spread out over four years and exceeds the max in 2019-20, the bonus for Wall is applicable only to the 2018-19 season, so the total amount is still TBD.
Sam Dekker cannot be reacquired by the Clippers and Cavaliers. Dekker also cannot be aggregated in a trade until Feb. 7.
The Wizards are $9 million over the tax threshold and have a penalty of $14.6 million.
Washington can send up to $3.2 million cash in trades. The team also has four trade exceptions of $5.4 million, $1.3 million, $958,000 and $649,000.

If they trade Beal or Porter I'm not gonna watch single game this season unless Wall wakes the **** up and plays on MVP level.
