I also prefer Jalen Brunson more. National Champion. NCAA Player of the Year. Jameer Nelson type upside. (i. e. fringe All Star)

But Carter has the chance to become an elite role player. A top 3 & D guy who will manhandle opposing PGs for the next decade. Like a cross between Derek Fisher and Patrick Beverly.

And he ended up on the perfect franchise for his skill set. Backing up M Conley at the Grindhouse.

20 years ago I easily take Javon Carter over Brunson. But in today’s game where defense doesn’t seem to valued in the same way if it’s not accompanied by some offense the way it once was in the NBA and I’m worried about Carter’s overall offense. To me, he seems like a Fisher type with more D and less O.

But he does have that old school swag game where he’s good enough to be chewing on a toothpick while diggin deep on D...ala Pig Miller! Lol.

I'm a little embarrassed I didn't have this kid rated higher in last year's draft.

He looks like a beast and would have paired incredibly well with Collins:

Yante Maten Named G League Player Of The Month
Image
The NBA G League announced that Miami Heat two-way player Yante Maten has been named NBA G League Player of the Month for games played during the month of December.

Maten appeared in nine games (nine starts) in December, averaging 29.2 points, 11.4 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.4 blocks per game while shooting 59.0 percent from the field, 47.4 percent from three

I was hoping that Maten would have stayed in GA. I had him at the top of my wish list for second round picks in last year's draft. I see alot of Millsap in him. He should break into an NBA rotation by next season.

I do think Doncic, in the right situation, can be a star in this league. In SAS, BOS, HOU, Atlanta, GSW, LAL he'd be great.

But I also can see him flaming out under bad coaches on bad franchises. See: Orlando, New York, New Orleans or Cleveland.

The comparison I've heard that seems most fitting for Doncic is prime Manu Ginobili.

Does that seem right to you guys? Combo guartd who can play off-ball or run point--who makes heady, unselfish plays even if they lack in top end athleticism.

Position wise yes, I think Doncic can play 1-3 like Manu, but skill set wise, from the tape I've seen, and again this is very premature but I'd say Drazen. He can put the ball on the floor, and shoot very well, a couple of things that Drazen did as well, however I do think that Doncic can pass the ball much much much better than Drazen. Again, way too early but he could end up being the first pick and if it's in a Hawks uni, even better.

2 things you can't teach in basketball:

1. Height
2. Feel for the game

Doncic obviously has the height at 6'8", but watching his tape, he has a tremendous feel for the game. Very creative with the ball.

I'm gonna make a prediction that we can all look back at in 10 years and laugh or cry but here it goes:

Doncic will be in the top 5 Europeans that have ever laced them up...that includes the entire list....Dirk, Peja, Vlade, Sarunas,Gasols, and yes, even Drazen Petro.

If I had a nickel for every time I say the following I'd be a billionaire but I'll say it again..

2018 draft is the draft of all drafts...84,96,2003 and now 2018.

We HAVE to get a top 5 pick.

Lol. Wow.

Weren’t you and the King of Ken responsible for shutting down those unwanted Luka threads? Of course with the help of DMS he had to ultimately turn the key but kudos! Nice work!

These are always amusing -- and a tad bit premature.

Bleacher Report

Re-Drafting the 2018 NBA Rookie Class

Where Would Luka, Trae, Ayton Go Today?

1. Phoenix Suns: Luka Doncic

2. Sacramento Kings: Jaren Jackson Jr.

3. Atlanta Hawks: Deandre Ayton

Image

The Atlanta Hawks wouldn't have to think much at No. 3 if Doncic and Jackson went No. 1 and No. 2. Right there in the Rookie of the Year race, Ayton would look like the easy best player available following his start in Phoenix.

He and John Collins could form an overwhelming frontcourt for the Hawks, especially if both continue to develop their jump shots. Ayton is still more of an anchor who Atlanta can feed in the post for high-percentage looks. He's been remarkably efficient as a finisher and back-to-the-basket scorer while flashing enough touch in the mid-range for the Hawks to feel confident in his potential to eventually become a three-point threat.

Early questions about his defensive feel and energy—plus Doncic and Jackson both looking like future difference-makers—knock the real No. 1 pick down to No. 3. But that could just make Ayton the steal of the re-draft.

9. New York Knicks: Trae Young

Image

The New York Knicks have point guards, but none they should feel confident in building with during their pursuit of high-profile free agents. They'd be wiser to add Trae Young and decide in the offseason if Emmanuel Mudiay is worth bringing back based on how he closes and what he'll cost in free agency.

Young hasn't been efficient in Atlanta, but the lack of support there hasn't helped. He's still been a dynamic off-the-dribble threat and creator, which the Knicks could use for Kristaps Porzingis' eventual return.

Young's playmaking and passing are legitimate, and though his scoring hasn't been as convincing, it's worth betting on his shooting consistency improving given his high-level shot-making skill.

Spoiler:
10. Philadelphia 76ers (via Lakers): Kevin Huerter

Image

Zhaire Smith, who the Philadelphia 76ers acquired on draft night via trade, could be the target again. But they also don't know what they have yet in Smith, since he's been out all season. Meanwhile, it's clear Kevin Huerter fits and fills a need in the short term.

The original No. 19 pick continues to prove himself as a shooter who can eventually join the league's elite based on his early success, projectable stroke and shot-making versatility.

Along with his three-ball, his passing and defensive IQ help round him out into an ideal role player to surround three NBA stars.

19. Atlanta Hawks (via Timberwolves): Allonzo Trier

Image

Originally undrafted, Allonzo Trier has played like a first-rounder for the New York Knicks.

He'd have the chance the start in Atlanta, where the Hawks would value his ability to create his own shot and score against set defenses.

He's surprised early with his one-on-one execution and spot-up shooting.

Trier turns 23 years old later in January, but he's clearly established himself as an NBA-level scorer. And the Hawks could use one in their backcourt, particularly if they were to take a big man at No. 3 of a re-draft.

30. Atlanta Hawks (via Rockets): Elie Okobo

After taking Ayton over Young, the Hawks could use a ball-handler. Of the point guards remaining, Okobo has flashed the most potential with his size, shot-making and play-making.

^Ayton, Trier and Okobo would make for a massively talented collection of players.

And a locker room full of knuckle heads.

 Agreed we went the smarter route in Trae and Huerter. Well ok not the smarter but the non knuckle head route.

You can only have 1 knucklehead for every team. Unless your a super talented club, even then it’s risky to have 2.

Imagine a Lance Stephenson and a Nick Young on the same squad. Oh my.

LOL That'd be like putting Dwight Howard and Dennis Schroder on the same roster...

You'd have to be a moron to think that would work.

I will say, getting two top-10 caliber talents in 2018 and having the chance to do the same in 2019 does mitigate the sting of trading that other guy.
