Draymond Green: I Just Haven't Really Been Myself

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Thu Dec 27, 2018 11:38 pm

Draymond Green reflected on his current slump and admitted he hasn't been playing to his typical standards.

Green said he will be more aggressive on offense.

“My defender is going to have to pay,” Green said. “Whatever action I’m in, I’m going to start lighting their a— up. And that don’t just mean scoring, by the way. I ain’t been doing me. I ain’t been playmaking like I can. I ain’t been scoring when I get the opportunity. I ain’t been rebounding like I can. I ain’t been defending like I can. I just haven’t really been myself.

“Everyone’s looking at the scoring, and I don’t really look at that. Yeah, I got to be more aggressive on the offensive end, but I just got to be me all-around. I haven’t really been that.”

Green is shooting 40.7 percent from the field and 22.4 percent (11-for-49) from three-point range.

at this point all this i have to make defenders pay is hot air. im sure his teammates are saying either hit open shots or shut up. you cant make a play when your matchup is sagging 10 feet away.

what hes been doing recently is turning down open shots and waiting for steph or kd to run off a down screen and make something happen.

What he meant to say is he is going to be dirtier than ever. Set some illegal screens. Kick people in the groin on jump shots. Couple of punches here and there to the stomach. You know stuff to make people stay away from for open shots. Draymond type stuff...
Ska needs to make a comeback.

Coincidence that LBJ is now out with a groin injury?

Whenever a "play bigger than my actual size" guy has some slippage athletically, the drop off becomes steep.

Draymond's problem is very simple - he focused on playing for his next big / MAX / final contract in stead of focusing on playing for a championship.

Durant could statistically fall off a cliff but teams will still offer him a MAX contract based on his history. Draymond, on the other hand, will need to play at a whole other level defensively / offensively ( playmaking ) for teams to even think about offering him a substantial pay raise.

His realization that Durant could waltz the rest of the season & will still get a MAX contract ( even if Warriors lose in the playoffs ) while he literally has to play like his life depends on it has completely affected his play.

Will this lead to a midseason trade?

I think he is declining, of course he can play better then he has but he isn't in position to make an incline at his age.
