Standings Prediction Game 2018-2019

Post#1 » by Chris Porter's Hair » Sun Sep 23, 2018 5:57 pm

I'm getting better at getting this launched early. You can find the game here:

http://carpediemjuggling.com/dave/warriors/prediction

Enter your predictions for each conference by dragging the teams into your preferred order. Scoring is determined by finding the difference between your prediction and the actual standings for each team, and summing them up. Naturally, lowest score wins.

If you don't remember your login information, let me know and I can try to help.

Best of luck...

Scoring example:
You predict:
1. Harlem Globetrotters
2. Golden State Warriors
3. Washington Generals

Actual standings:
1. Golden State Warriors
2. Harlem Globetrotters
3. Washington Generals

You score 1 point for being off by 1 on the Warriors, 1 point for being off by 1 on the Globetrotters, and 0 points for getting the Generals exactly right, for a total of 2 points.

Winning.

Mine are in. I spent a grand total of about 15 minutes working it out so I'll probably suck just like last year.

My hot take picks:
-New Orleans will miss the playoffs
-Lakers will be 7th (but upset Houston in the 1st round)
-Charlotte will make the playoffs

Outside of that I didn't stray from the odds too much.

I've been saying the Pelicans will finish top 4 in the West.

This year seems so much more random than years past.

When I click on the link and then 'Open Games' either eastern or western conference, I can see the team names and standings but nowhere to input my predictions. Am I too late?

Yup. Entries had to be in before opening day.

Looks like after people asked, and I opened it up for another week, nobody else joined. Thanks? heh

I just noticed the standings aren't updating. That happens every year, when somebody changes whatever web page I scrape standings from. I'll try to look into that soon.

Yep, somethings definitely wrong CPH, I'm coming last in both conferences, that can't be correct.

So funny...I just looked...saw the Warriors were on top of the West again...and chuckled as I remember cutting out a NEWSPAPER article....which showed...wait for it...the Warriors...making...the playoffs!

Times are so much better now...wow.

Nets and Kings are at or above .500 on January 18th, how wild is that.

I found a clue. I think it has something to do with the fact that my code was specifically pulling the standings for last season heh

Should be fixed now.

Quite proud of my efforts so far this season for this prediction game. Currently sitting in dead last for both conferences.

Yay.

I'm winning the West by a good margin and my list is a mess. Your guys' must be really awful! :)

According to our "wisdom" of the crowds, the teams crossing us up the most would be Denver (2nd vs. 7.6667 avg pick) and New Orleans (12th vs. 7 avg pick) in the West, and Brooklyn (6th vs. 11.333 avg pick) and Boston (5th vs. 1 avg pick) in the East.

We gotta get this thing going early this year so we can have more people this time around! :)

I'm on vacation traveling at the moment. Will try to set it up ASAP when I return.
