Re: Temetrius "Ja" Morant
biggest question mark isn't his frame or athleticism, it's more his decision making and I don't mean knowing when to pass but how to control the game and orchestrate offense. He's a good passer but I am not sure if he can really run a team at this point and these two are different things. This is why I have him in the 10th range right now and not higher.
speaking of Sexton, he's probably right around that range as a prospect to me.

I agree this part. I won't care his rank or when he will be draft.
The matter is which team draft him.
That's define how he will be in NBA.
Like player drafted by Suns or Magic is very tragedy.
Now the basketball player only stay one or two year in collage.
So they didn't have much experience how to control the game.
Most of them study at NBA's first and second year.
Also NCAA still use 30 sec and reset 30 when they got off rebound.
NBA and FIBA all 24 and 14 that's very big different.
In NBA team can only run one setting in 24 sec if the defense break this play than it's the star's show time.
So now the team's BPA is draft player who can create offense by himself and his teammate.
Ja is very good for this part.
I already wrote NBA prospect analysis more than 7 years and a half pro write in Taiwan.
And Ja had much better organization than Sexton.
Next year Avery Johnson didn't want Sexton to do organization.
But Trea is another story.
His pass skill is elite too and also his shooting and floater but his athletic is too bad.
Ja didn't have Trea's shooting skill now but his athletic is way better and also he like to show.
NBA is a show and they will give more credit for the player that's had entertainment value.

FYI, Murray State on one of the ESPNs tonight vs Belmont who is usually a pretty solid team for that level.

ESPNU I believe. Belmont isn't the most athletic team, but no doubt the best coached team in the OVC. Should be a good test for him (easily the best test in conference play).

Belmont doesn't ready have the bodies to stop Morant 1on1 or near the rim, they are gonna need to muck the game, slow the pace and cut on transition opportunities, then let Windler use his size and Muszynski too, to generate easy points

Re: Temetrius "Ja" Morant
well that was fun for about 30 seconds. I turned it off as soon as Morant came back into the game with a noticeable limp. No reason to even watch at that point.

Re: Temetrius "Ja" Morant

biggest takeaway, Morant much better assist/usage ratio and a better FG% by a wide margin.

Other takeaway: useless comparison considering the massive difference in level of competition.

^ of course that has to be taken into context, and Morant is playing against worse players, but he's also playing with worse players. Works both ways.

If you're that much better than the competition, your teammates being poor are kind of irrelevant. Also, compared to the rest of the league / competition, his team is actually pretty good (with the exception of their big, who is average for his league at best...).

i can't tell if that's a dig or a praise.

(It's not really a dig, I just wanted to use that meme. I'm re-watching Marvel's movies before I see Captain Marvel.)

Need to be extremely careful using stats to compare players in college unless they are playing either the same, or nearly identical competition. Of course you expect good players to produce statistically, but delving in depth comparing players often is more hurtful than helpful.

Re: Temetrius "Ja" Morant
Not sold on this kid. He plays like a wilder out of control deaaron fox. He has questionable decision makjng and loose handles for a guard. If he reaches his absolute ceiling he is a damian lillard ish player but hes probably closer to dejounte murray. His inabilty to control and run an nba offense consistently will severly hinder his potential as a star caliber player and i can see him struggling to to adapt to find his role. I think out of top 5 he has a high chance to bust.
Trae Young doesnt jump out as a prospect initially but like steve nash he possess 3 elite skills at the nba level when most prospects/players dont even have 1. On top of that he has incredible poise and feel for the game. Those qualities are always going to translate into something very good or great.

Hmmm...explain please? He has nothing in common with either player in terms of skill set or style. I agree with having concerns about him (I’ve gone in on them a few times), but the bold is odd.

You're right they are nothing alike in terms of style or skillset i was more referring to production level absolute best case scenario. If morant is given full reigns to an nba team and he fixes his deficiencies he can become that archetype dynamic high scoring lead guard like a lillard. Hes more of a quick twitch athlete than lillard but obviously way less nuanced and nowhere as good of outside shooter.
Realistic ceiling would be dejounte murray.
Dejounte Murray is still an intriguing prospect/player with all star potential..that being said he wouldnt go top 3 or even top 5 in most drafts. Murray is a combo guard who can run an offense at times but his primary role for his team is to score w/added bonus of his defense. Both use their length well and love to attack the rim. Like murray if he were a top 7 or 8 its certainly justifiable but Morant going as high as 2 doesnt make any sense.
Also note i said ceiling and not realistic comp meaning he might not even be as good as dejounte murray bc of the aforementioned weak points.

Morant's numbers now as a 19-year-old blow Damian's out of the water as a senior.
