I was thinking about Powell recently. I think if we get a guy like Powell its because they think Dre isn't coming back this year and possibly ever. Powell has a lot of years left on his current contract.
Yeah good point. That'd be 24 million for the backup backcourt.
I dont hate Powell on this team. I do hate giving the Raptors expirings him AND draft picks. If anything the draft pick compensation should be coming to OKC
This one is a little eh for me. It would cost the Thunder about $4 million in Lux tax to do the deal which is whatever. But, giving up Felton who yes he is a 3rd point guard. But, he is someone that can play 5 -10 minutes in a playoff game and you know what you are getting out of him. Where Abrines is right now is an unknown, having his RFA rights is something I see as value. He was a career 38% from 3 at the beginning of the season. He has had a down year from 3 this year shooting 32%, but his defense was much better and I think if we move him we will be wishing we didn't. I also wonder if this "personal DNP" were to get teams to stop asking for him in trades. TLC is on the block, he will most likely be moved to create roster space.
Powell is a nice player, but he has never been consistent. Adding Powell would also mean adding long term money. I don't know if his 20 minutes a game is worth the 3 years $32 million left on his deal after this season. As he helps this year he also blocks Diallo's minutes in future years.
If I am OKC I pass on this deal because I think there are better ones out there. I would assume the Thunder will go with a 9 man rotation in the playoffs. Hopefully the Thunder can add another wing so we are not relying on Abrines, Diallo, and or Nader as the wing off the bench.
