Apparently we're focused on getting swept in the first round, building around Tobias, and some wild dream of pairing Durant and Kawhi with him. While the best player that's actually changing teams in a decade is about to go to the Lakers.

I think our front office is smart, but I also think they're going in the wrongest direction they could choose. Hope I'm wrong, but I can't really see this team getting out of mediocrity in the next 5-8 years.

Why be as flexible as can be when you have the best front office mind practically ever in any sport in your front office?

Shoot for the 8th seed so you can attract a Free Agent.

Sports Illustrated's AD Trade Proposal for Clippers

Gabriel Baumgaertner, Sports Illustrated (1/28/19)
LOS ANGELES CLIPPERS

Clippers get: Anthony Davis and Solomon Hill
Pelicans get: Tobias Harris, Lou Williams, Jerome Robinson, Avery Bradley, 2021 first and a 2020 second

If the Clippers want to make a run at Davis then they may as well use the blueprint that they tried in the Chris Paul trade two offseasons ago. The Pelicans need to think of this like a baseball trade: There is absolutely no way to recoup Davis’ value, so what teams can provide you controllable future assets? The lead piece will either be Danilo Gallinari or Tobias Harris: Harris is the better player, but Gallinari has two more years left on his contract and is still capable of 20+ points per game in an Alvin Gentry offense. If GM Dell Demps insists on Harris, that’s reasonable, but there’s a higher likelihood he departs in free agency. Lou Williams is signed to one of the most team-friendly contracts in basketball and is one of the most valuable bench pieces around; the man gets his buckets. Robinson is a high-floor, low-ceiling guard and Bradley can serve as a place-holder during the rebuild. The Clippers can assume Solomon Hill’s expiring contract as a favor for acquiring one of the game’s top-five players.

The Pelicans should demand Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Montrezl Harrell, but it’s unlikely that the Clippers would part with either. Since it is Anthony Davis on the other end of the deal, perhaps the Clippers can’t deem anyone untouchable. They probably shouldn’t part with Gregorius-Alexander in any circumstance, but if it means bringing in Davis now and Kawhi Leonard later, maybe it’s time to clear the decks.

Five Anthony Davis Trades the Pelicans Should Consider

Sounds like former commissioner David Stern was indeed right about Pelicans GM Dell Demps.

If the Pelicans really only want Ball, Kuzma, Zubac and a 1st then the Lakers would be nuts not to say yes immediately assuming AD would re-sign with them. Pelicans would be selling cheap. AD is arguably a top 1-5 player. I do not even get why the Pelicans are not better. They have 3-4 guys that are very good. Clippers should be calling the Pelicans office nonstop. You don't get many chances at a player like AD.
My eyes glaze over when reading alternative stat (not advanced stat) narratives that go many paragraphs long. If you can not make your point in 2 paragraphs it may not be a great point. :D

It's still early. I'd be shocked if LAC doesn't look into AD.

They can look as intensely as they want, you can give them a blank check of everything we have, and we still don't come close to the best 15 offers they're gonna get this week.

He is clearly trying to force his way to the Lakers, that's the only reason he's taking the press hit of asking for a trade in the short period the Celtics can't trade for him. Now the Pels have to decide if they want to wait until the summer and have the Celtics and whoever drafted Zion enter the bidding, or trade him before his disgruntled ass kills this season for them. I'd go for plan A for sure, but this is Dell Demps we're talking about.

I think he was trying to do right by NO. They've been a team who gave away first round picks like candy which got them in the mess they are in now and they were literally about to trade their 1st this year for another role player and he let the team know before the deadline his intentions so they won't waste the pick. Now that pick now could lead to a nice player in the draft.

Based on the statement NO posted it looks like they'll wait until the summer. "On our time". Their season is over regardless.

Ball-Family Interference

Post#233 » by Ranma » Tue Jan 29, 2019 1:59 am

I got news for LaVar Ball. Once AD is traded and depending on the return, it's quite possible and even likely that they'll deal Jrue Holiday too, so his son Lonzo should have the starting PG spot all to himself. I'm guessing LaVar and the Ball camp aren't really concerned about that and are more worried about staying in Los Angeles or relocating to another major media market to continue their sham marketing machinations.

Yeah I don't blame him at all, he's been way more patient than most people in his situation would be, and he has every right to look for a better situation. I'm just pissed that this thing that's been years in the making and everyone saw coming, caught us completely unprepared even though we're supposed to be looking to add stars in their prime. While teams like the Celtics and Lakers have been preparing for it for half a decade, and one of them is gonna get him because of it.

If your plan is "let's get stars in free agency", but the biggest of them all is in the market and you have zero chance to get him, your plan sucks.

Yeah I agree that the Pelicans' best bet is to wait until the summer, and instead of the Lakers crappy package, try to get either Tatum from the Celts, or the Zion pick if a team like the Bulls or Knicks are willing to offer it. Davis will surely try to keep forcing the Lakers though, and when he says he's not re-signing with anyone but them, we'll see what the other teams offer. I'll be surprised if he doesn't end up a Laker in the end.

Davis positioning his way to the Lakers I think helps the Clippers a lot with the Kawhi sweepstakes. Why would Kawhi want to be the 3rd option on the Lakers?

Please remember that last season Kawhi's camp was floating Kawhi to LA rumors. It was obvious that LA was where he wanted to be and.....

Toronto swooped in.

Anthony Davis is a good enough talent that a team would take a shot on courting him for a year like the Raptors (even he is likely only re-signing with the Lakers) are doing with Kawhi.

Knicks with their lottery pick and pair him with Cryrie in the offseason????
Durant????
