“If you're getting stops and you're making threes and the other team's not scoring, that's when you're going to see a huge point difference there,” coach Billy Donovan said.

I don't think you can pencil those in the mid first. At least not the unprotected 2021. What if KP signs the QO? What if he sucks coming back from injury? I think this is a risky move on both sides assuming NY doesn't have a guarantee from some soon to be max FAs

I don't see where is the big risk for both sides. Knicks are targeting some superstars for sure but I think it would have been a bigger risk to sign Porzingis on a max salary (he was probably going to UFA if he stayed with the Knicks otherwise they wouldn't have traded him now). On the other hand the Mavs are betting that they can have a ''cheap'' year with him to see if he brings what they need and if he can stay healthy. It's not like the Mavs gave some big assets (they didn't want DSJ anymore) so it's worth the shot.

The 'worst case' for Dallas is that porkchop leaves after the QO and they have 70 million dollars to surround doncic/hardaway with going into 2021.

Does anyone want to go out on a limb with a trade prediction? Then if someone gets it right, they can pat themselves on the back.

I will always take credit for PG to OKC with that picture.

I mean that's probably not that good of a squad tbh. I know this board is pretty divided on THJ (I'm not a fan) but even the people highest on him probably don't see him as the type of dude who attracts other guys in FA. So now they're without Zinger and stuck hoping they can sign more Deandre's and Harrison Barnes' all while losing out on their FRPs every other year. I'm not saying this is what's going to happen but that seems like real risk assessment they have to consider.
On the surface I think the Knicks won this tbh. The Knicks saw the writing on the wall with Zinger wanting out and they got a decent albeit flawed prospect in DSJ, two firsts, and off all the bad money they had.

Matthews would be a great get because it would allow us to finally play small. Westbrook-Ferhusin-Matthews-Geotge-Grant/Adams would most likely be an excellent lineup on both sides of the floor.

Seriosley, Wes is the perfect buyout guy for us. We have to do everything we can to convince him of that.
Good in playoffs, good defense, and hits the 3 ball.

i don't think we will get matthews. houston might be desperate enough to offer a part of their remaining mle. i think we could have possibly worked a trade out for matthews had we kept singler's expiring around-- saved knicks the same $ as a buyout plus they get a 2nd or something. not possible now, though.
zingis trade the rare trade i think was really great for both teams. dallas takes a shot on porzingis and the knicks accomplish their goal of clearing lee and hardaway for next summer, with the cost being giving up a player who didn't want to be there anyway.

Luka plus two max slots and hardaway isn't a good team?

Thunder also have left 4.5 million $ of their own MLE. So Presti could match Houstons offer financially.

I really don't see KP signing a QO, he's 7'3" guy coming off a major injury, it would be really risky not to sign a long term contract and get the guaranteed money. Plus even if he stays healthy and signs a max contract in 2020, he loses a lot of money he could have earned in 2019/2020.

we're in a far more precarious tax situation.

He's definitely a serviceable wing. If he's your 4th/5th starter then you don't feel like that's a position you have to upgrade.

It's far less likely that the Rockets spend that money than us spending that money. The Rockets have spent all season saving pennys left and right. Hell, they held onto Melo for months just so they could save money on the last couple of months of his minimum deal.
