I think a lot of it depends on how the Knicks do in free agency. That being said I voted yes. I personally think Porzingis is a bit over-rated and likely to be injury prone his entire career due to his body type. Also, he was not happy being a Knick. If Porzingis played the first couple of years with Orlando Magic he wouldn't have had half the hype surrounded that has surrounded him as a Knick.

The Knicks FO basically swindled Dallas. They're gonna have major egg on their face if KP doesn't return to pre-injury form. So much uncertainty is sketchy. Dallas was wise getting off of DJ and Mathews' bad money, but the 2 picks were not necessary. Not sure why Dallas was convinced they needed to that. If anything, the Knicks should have sent a pick to Dallas for taking Porzee off their hands.

Way too early to judge this one. Something I noticed wasn't mentioned.. Luka and Porzingis from Europe.. See Manu, Tim, and Tony's Spanish culture possibly something that held them together for 15+ amazing years for the Spurs. If Porzingis returns to all star form and resigns this trade makes total sense for Dallas. They got value for Dennis Smith, those 2 first rounders could easily be in the 15-25 range. If Porzingis walks or becomes the next Gordon Hayward.. uh-oh poor Dallas.

It all depends on who they can recruit to join them. As of right now, they got a lot of good cap space for a player that didn't want to be there, even though the reason he didn't want to be there was because they have been doing a poor job of getting talent to come to NY. If KD goes there then it all changes as KP for KD and pieces around him is an amazing deal.

Yes they did. Porz style of play (slashing big) is pretty dangerous and will make him prone to injury. NBA is about guards, and 3 point shooting.

The Mavs made an excellent haul, considering the haul A.D is going to get.

you realize dallas took on longer deals in THF and courtney lee, right? DJ and wes are expiring, which i believe is the point of this from NY's perspective. and the picks and junior. and dallas either has to max out KP or watch him walk.

Yes. I knew he was unhappy, but didn't realize he was this unhappy. Having asked for a trade, it was absolutely a smart move to trade him for the best package available and before his request was made public. If word got out, the Knicks could have potentially lost a lot of leverage.

There is a ton of uncertainty for both teams. It's really impossible to properly judge this trade until the major reasons play out, mainly whether KP gets back to form and whether superstar free agents go to NY. If KP gets back to All-Star form and stays relatively healthy for a few years, it would be a great move by Dallas. A healthy, All-Star KP would probably make those draft picks much less valuable. If NY doesn't get some big, move-the-needle free agents this summer, and if KP gets back to pre-injury form, this will look like a horrible trade for the Knicks. On the flip side, if KP doesn't get back to form, the picks from Dallas could be pretty good. And if NY gets some superstars to sign in the summer too, it could look like a huge franchise-changing win for the Knicks.

Some are saying Dennis Smith was a big part of this deal, but I think he has a lot to prove. If Kyrie signs with the Knicks in the summer, Smith would probably become a nice bench player at best, though they probably would move him if he has any value by then. Burke doesn't look like a big downgrade from Smith at this point in their careers, and he might be a better fit in Carlisle's schemes.

The "bad" contracts in Lee and Hardaway aren't really that bad for a team looking to add complimentary players around stars. SG's willing and able to knock down three point shots have value in this league. Hardaway's game does not work as a lead scorer, but his efficiency should improve as a complimentary player. Lee brings 50 games worth of playoff experience, including in the Finals. He can replace much of what Matthews brought to the table, and should get more PT with a team that isn't in tank-mode.

It seems that the initial consensus read was that Dallas robbed NY, then there was a swing the other direction after the details came out. For now, I think the deal favored Dallas by a slight margin in terms of risk-to-reward. How it plays out though, is anybody's guess.

Losing KP was the price the Knicks had to pay to dump bad contracts in Lee and THJ. I seriously doubt that having cap space will get them big named free agents in July because that organization is trash. The Knicks could redeem themselves in this trade if DSJ develops in New York or they are able to hit it on one of the two first round picks.

How can anybody vote "No" on this??? They had no choice! The guy was injury prone, coming off a major injury and wanted out. He wasn't going to sign a long term extension with the Knicks regardless. Trading him was the ONLY move. If they didn't, they get absolutely nothing when he walks. Instead they got a potential PG of the future and 2 1sts, for a guy that might never even play a full season or repeat the success he had during that one 10 game stretch last year. They also dumped THJ contract who was way over payed. Claiming it would have been better to keep Porzingis is absurdity of the highest caliber.

KP and Zion could have led the Knicks to the promised land. Now we will never know.

Or KP could have just gotten hurt next year and continue to use his brother to poison the team.

Maybe, but claiming otherwise is not an absurdity of any caliber.

Excellent move. Why keep a player who doesn't want to be on your roster? Why be forced to pay him MAX money when he's not a MAX player. This is the same guy who in his 1st or 2nd year (mid-season) complained that he was tired. He is not a Franchise player and would have commanded Franchise Player money. I think (for once) the Knicks made a great move freeing up cap space and opening 2 max slots instead of setting themselves back by investing in Porzingis as a Franchise Player.

Maybe you are having trouble understanding my point. The Knicks had no choice with the Porzingis deal. He didn't want to be there, hence there was never a possible future with KP and Zion. Yes, it is absurdity of the highest caliber to suggest they shouldn't have traded him. There was no other option. You either get assets for him or he walks and you get nothing. It was a good move, the only move.
