Their agents definitely played the market horribly, Dave Robertson represented himself and go himself more money then he probably wouldve with an agent  .

eh their agents are doing the right thing with waiting it out if they had no good offers early on.

it's moreso the teams being cheap and not really committed to winning despite high revenue.

Harper had a 10 year/300M offer from Washington during last season, which has since been pulled back now. Washington spent most of that on Corbin and they’re not gonna reoffer the same deal knowing the market now.

Both these dudes wanted A-Rod money and now they might be lucky if they both get 200 million.

the past several seasons every player that signed a contract during spring training has a bad season because they're behind the 8 ball.

harper and machado are dumb, they're both 26. sign a 4 year deal for big money then be a 30 year old that'll definitely get 5-6 years on the market.
LOL Y U MAD THO?

idk if harper not resigning with nats is entirely on the agent. the player might not want to return to that team.

I kinda see why teams don’t want to lay out that kind of long term cash on one player though. In baseball how much impact does one player really have? It’s not like basketball where signing one guy could be the difference between being a contender and not even making the playoffs in some cases.

Very true, and also in baseball you see guys having a career year or a great year then the next year he sucks. I thought Brian Dozier was going to be one of the best 2nd basemen of this generation but I don't know what happened to him. He's not the first and won't be the last.

Team's front office analytics are finding out that long term contracts isn't worth it due to a player's WAR decreasing after age 31. I don't how accurate that is but it was something brought up that I found interesting.

Judge's contract negotiations could get ugly, so keep that in mind as a potential sh*t show in a couple of years.

Anyone who plays MLB The Show/MVP Baseball remember in Franchise/Season mode how players would retire young over “Poor Free Agent market” and it wouldn’t make any sense? I think we actually might see that IRL now unless something drastic changes once this lockout happens.

the value of elite talent depends on your goal. just making the playoffs, depth is far better. but as your team's holes are covered, you need that elite talent, particularly guys whose game carry to playoffs, to get to the next level.

with how good advanced scouting and pitch analysis etc are nowadays, having non-exploitable players is more important in the post season. the proper kind of superstar becomes that much more valuable in this environment.
