Just because you have cap space doesnt mean you have to hand out max contracts left and right. That's how rich teams get richer and poorly managed teams regress further.

thats the MAX a team should risk.

C’mon - that’s ridiculously low. Player salaries are public and he’s going to look at guys like Booker and Wiggins and KAT and feel he deserves the same. He’s an All Star and has helped lead his team to the playoffs. I could see a little less than the full max, but 12.5M/yr? I think the tail end of a rookie scale for a top pick is more than that. Just c’mon.

Certainly not as bad as giving away future all star D’Angelo Russell right ?

He's an all-star in the East because some guys got hurt. He's a high usage volume shooter who isn't great from 3. He's not the kind of point guard you want playing next to Lebron. His usage is almost identical to LeBron. The only negative is that trading him led Magic to drafting Lonzo.

I was just yanking your chains.

I do think Russell would be pretty good next to Lebron though. Lebron has shown he has no problem being the secondary ball handler (I’m talking 2017 here).

Nets have been put in a tough spot due to his extremely generous all-star credentials. I would low-ball him and go with Dinwiddie if he walks. I don't think he projects as a top 2 player on a contender and they're the kinds of guys I'd be comfortable sacrificing cap flexibility for.

Dlo would want to stay with BKN. He understand that we were the team that gave him the chance to shine. We are also the team that put the correct system for him. In order for him to be a perennial he'd be willing to accept what the Nets would offer him. Marks also being a player's GM will give him the appropriate contract that he will accept. This will all depends on how FA sets up and what player(s) are willing to go here.

Are there teams who have the cap space and are looking for a guard who could max him?

Maybe Utah and Indy? New York and LA most likely go after other names. Not sure about the need/fit in Sacramento, Dallas and Atlanta.

So yeah not sure if someone will max him. I would offer him a 4/100M deal which seems quite fair to me.

Bulls fan here-I MIGHT throw a huge deal at him, if we don't draft a PG. BRK has bigger targets, so they might let him walk

If they dump Crabbe (Den pick) they could add Irving and KD

Unfortunately for Brooklyn, there are a lot of teams with cap space and someone will foolishly give him a good payday esp now with that wink*wink All-Star status.

Nets will of course match.

Paying 30% of your salary to D-Lo? How could that team compete? That's a franchise killer.

Russell's a guy that would be a great piece at $15M/year and probably an OK investment at $20M/year, but any team signing him to a full max will likely regret that decision.

You’re bidding against yourself if you give him a max deal since no one else can do that. And as an RFA, it’s even more difficult for someone else to come in big. Something like 5/115 is still a really good offer for someone who’s only made $23 million total in the NBA so far.

Owners think they are so clever, but max contracts are terrible. It ensures players will be overpaid as opposed to being paid on par with their peers.

Wall doesn't deserve his max and he's a better player than D-Lo.

Well, he is restricted. So I could see the Nets letting the market dictate what he gets, and hoping it isn't 5/156.

I would just match whatever offer he gets on the market.

no he's nowhere close to deserving that yet. He probably will get a max in the future. But right now Id give him a 4/5 year contract worth anywhere between 80-100 mil
