College players to watch

Post#1 » by Celtsfan1980 » Mon Aug 27, 2018 6:18 pm

As of right now I'd say the Browns' biggest needs are depth in the offensive line and defensive line. I'd keep an eye on Nick Bosa, Ed Oliver, Clemson's defensive line, and offensive tackle Jonah Williams. If the team surprises I'd look at defensive ends like Bryant, Jackson, and Sweat, and some of your top guards like McGovern and Benzschawel. Who do Browns fans plan on watching this year?

As of today defensive tackle and pass rush help along with depth at quarterback, offensive line, tight end, linebacker, and cornerback are the biggest need. I'd keep Collins at this point. I have no preferences right now. I'd prefer to trade down rather than trade up.

DT ( Wilkins in first maybe Lawrence / Willis,Buggs or Mack in later rounds)
CB ( Williams,Baker,Murphy at 17 possible/Oruwariye, Layne,Johnson,Sheffield later rounds)
LB ( White,Wilson,Bush,Joseph in first/ Lamar,Hanks, Hansen later rounds)
OT- Left tackle ( Cajuste or Dillard in first could slip to 17/St.Louis, Howard or Scharping later rounds)
S ( Thompson, C.Gardner Johnson, Adderley in 1st/ Dennis,Blair,Hooker in later rounds)
Edge ( Polite,Burns in 1st could be there/ Ferguson,Nelson,Walker,Collier later rounds)
WR ( Metcalf,Samuel,Brown,Ridley,Harmon in 1st possible/ Hardman,Campbell,Butler,Wesley,Mitchell later rounds)
I like Browns trading up for DT Ed Oliver or CB Greedy Williams

* I like L.J. Collier DE/DT as a sleeper at 49 if the Browns go high profile WR Metcalf or Marquise Brown at 17.
If they stick to DT as the top priority early ; Tillery as an option at 17 with the likes of Wilkins and Oliver taken is also growing on me despite the inconsistencies, since when he's engaged he's the best pass rush DT in the draft.
The combine is going to shuffle the deck a lot for prospects like Kendall Sheffield, Mecole Hardman and Bell if they prove to be elite speed for position players.
----------
EDIT: after the Beckham deal and other moves I think a DB will take precedence at 49 unless a high ceiling left tackle falls there which seems unlikely. I like Adderley if falls moving back to CB & think Isaiah Johnson,Corey Balentine and C.G-J are all viable options for this roster.
I also like Christian Miller in the 5th as a hybrid olb/edge or go for the high upside of a similar player in Emeke Egbule in the 6th.
Browns should also grab a blocking TE like Blanton, and development DT like Tristan Hill

Yes, they really need to take care of the defensive line. I agree with Celtsfan1980.

I think with the offseason additions they should only look to pick up a development DT in the 5th round ala Tristan Hill, Renell Wren or Kingsly Keke etc. and focus on a Safety in the 2nd ( Adderley.Thornhill,Abram )& another CB in the 3rd(Balentine,I. Johnson,Sheffield,Boyd etc) I like Emeke Egbule olb/edge,Oli Udoh rt/g, F.Moreau blocking te/half back in the 5th 6th and 7th rounds and focus on Tyree St. Louis or Tyler Roemer as upside Left Tackle options in the 4th

Thank you for continuing to post on this subsection. Hopefully all of us get rewarded with a playoff appearance this year!

I hope you’re in better health.

So with all the additional players already acquired it's clear CLE is in win now mode and I would not be surprised if they use 3 or 4 of their 8 picks to move up and get that 1 guy they want. The remaining picks can fill backup voids and maybe specialist roles.

Other than maybe linebacker I expect the starters have been set. Need one more pass rusher, cornerback for depth, and obviously a linebacker. Spending a lot of cap space for punter, so I expect a punter will be drafted in the fifth round. Another tight end and third string quarterback would be good. Chase Winovich, Joejuan Williams, Lonnie Johnson Jr. and Anthony Nelson are players I'm expecting could be Browns. I don't see many trades personally.

I think it's CB early maybe even trade up for Layne or Mullen. But I also think they won't hesitate to grab a versatile DB like Thornhill or C.Gardner Johnson instead with the 49th and look at a upside CB to pair with Ward in the 5th. I think Pratt in the 3rd or Egbule in the late 5th as targets for LB depth. Cashman and Coney are also sleepers in that dept.
It also isn't out of the question for them to be targeting a dt like Tristan Hill or a LT like Tytus Howard at 49 if the db options are par with ones that will be there later.

So no top 10...I would not be surprised if they at least move into the first somewhere for a tier 1 CB

Do we like Sione? The lack of a defensive linemen is the one big surprise for me. They know the team better than we do, so I'm hopeful they didn't make a mistake.

Sione should be able to play MIKE for us and be a positive factor on special teams. I’m really curious to see what happens with Schobert.

Fans thought they needed defensive line help. They decided not to draft one, and at this point management looks like they were right.
