Steve Clifford: Markelle Fultz Still Rehabbing Shoulder, Likely Won't Play This Year

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Wed Mar 6, 2019 6:07 am

Markelle Fultz continues to rehab his shoulder and probably will not see the floor this season, according to Steve Clifford.

"He's still rehabbing his shoulder and he's not even able to really do much on the floor yet. It's a pretty significant shoulder injury. I would say he's starting to do a little bit, but it would be very difficult for him to get back this year," said Clifford.

The 76ers beat the Magic on Tuesday night. Brett Brown said he continues to support his former point guard.

"We're always thinking about Markelle and we truly wish him well. I hope he can resurface -- and I believe he will -- and reclaim some of the expectations that he has on himself and the marketplace has for him," said Brown.

I feel like Markelle Fultz, Anthony Bennett, and Andrew Wiggins would have a funny, weird, autism-themed podcast.

what exactly is the injury ? Baseball pitchers recover from Tommy John surgery quicker than this.

Wiggins at least plays and contributes.

Thoracic outlet syndrome.

The big problem here appears to be that the Sixers’ medical staff didn’t detect it and said he was all clear while Fultz was able to find a doctor to diagnose it.

Recovery times get very messed up when an injury gets misdiagnosed.

For example, having a meniscus tear in a knee rehabbed that can only be fixed through surgery (horseshoe tear blocking the joint vs a garden variety tear) means a lot of pain trying to fix something that can’t be fixed that way plus atrophy of the surrounding muscles due to an extended recovery period.

For Fultz specifically, it probably means a lot of time trying to fix his arms and his shot because his shoulder was messed up for so long without a proper fix.

Eh. For what he’s paid you could argue he’s a net negative for that franchise. He plays like an overachieving 26th pick. I know the draft he led was quite lackluster (Dinwiddie and Joe Harris making it look much better lately) but still. He has a 24% usage with half a Win Share this season. You almost have to try to be that unimpactful with his athleticism.

Is it TOS ? If so which doctor diagnosed it? Fultz may have a shoulder injury. But I would be willing to bet the much bigger issue is he has either neurological or mental issue too.
The Accession of Paul Reed is upon us !

You want it to be one way....but it's the other way.

Not to say the Sixers medical staff is great... But Fultz and his agent went to like a dozen specialists before one diagnosed a physical problem. Pretty sure others considered TOS and didn't believe he warranted a diagnosis of it.

Glad he is not on the Sixers anymore. This guy and his bad team of advisers are going to try and ride this out till his next extension at the end of this year. There is a reason the Sixers got rid of a guy they traded two lottery picks for 2 years ago.

TOS is most commonly associated with rib anomaly, the intense strain of pitching a baseball, and compression resulting from a two wheeler bang up. i go with the rumors about the third possibility, given that the lack of info fits contract restricted activity.

The Philly doctors are awful, true. However, it's not their fault on Fultz. He has no physical injury. Notice how there's no doctor's name attached to this diagnosis? Because it's not real. He likely has a neurological issue. But his handlers are intent on getting that fourth year option picked up. So… they'll keep him out the rest of this year and just do enough next year to have the Magic pick it up. Then I imagine he'll come clean and get the correct diagnosis (it's not TOS). He'll probably go overseas for some indeterminate amount of time, and then could possibly come back and be a useful NBA player.

What does this have to do with autism?

It's possible that Eddy Curry and Kwame Brown have better careers than Markelle Fultz does. That's crazy.

I think you’re secretly terrified that he’ll bounce back after receiving proper treatment and you’ll have invested Tatum and a future 1st to get back Jon Simmons.
