Re: We Want the Monk: The Malik Monk Thread
Also, as of now it looks like monk might be our starting shooting guard next year, we don’t have money to resign Lamb. So we need him to put it together.

Re: We Want the Monk: The Malik Monk Thread
Comparing Monk and Lamb in wide open fg% and it's very close
Monk wide open
efg: 55.6
3pt fg: 37.2
Lamb wide open
efg: 56.8
3pt fg: 40
The difference happens when the defender is playing tight (2-4 feet)
Monk with defender 2-4 feet
efg: 33.3
3pt fg: 26.7
Lamb with defender 2-4 feet
efg: 44.2
3pt fg: 44.4
What this tells me is that Monk is finding it hard to adjust to the taller defenders and his fg % is taking a dive. Spacing the floor with the 2nd unit should help him get into a rhythm. I believe Graham helps in that regard. Lamb is obviously skilled at getting his shot with people in his face thanks to his long length. His wide open fg% is disappointing and may point to a low ceiling.

Good stuff catch.
What that really tells me though is wtf is our deal with not giving Lamb the ball in Q4 if he hits contested 3's at 44%.

Because Kemba is really busy dribbling around and trying to draw a foul on a wild layup at the buzzer?

Smart business would be to play Monk 25 minutes per game the rest of the season playoff push or not to prepare him to be the starting guard next season.

From Reddit
Right now his TS% is up 5% from last season and his free throw rate has doubled. His % of shots at the rim has increased from 12% to 21.8% and his fg% at the rim is up from 58.8% to 62%.
First, his volume of bad pull up shots has decreased by over 20% since last season, and is continuing to decrease as the season goes on. Second, look at how efficiently he's shooting on non-pull-ups this season...39.4% on spot up threes is the 2nd best on the team behind only Marvin, and 44.3% from the field on non-pull-ups is also really solid.
Then look at how on fire he's been since December 1st on non-pull-ups...50% from the field and 43.5% from three.

Shooting splits up to 40.1/34.6/90.1 - 53.5 TS%
Hopefully he can maintain that. 40/35/90 would be encouraging for his 2nd season.

He is slithery and he is quick.
He uses that slitheriness (is that a word?) well to find seams in the D when he drives into the paint.

tighter handles would make him even that much more slithery.

Monk with improved ball handling is going to be a problem for NBA defenses... If he dedicated this summer to improving those handles, he could avg. 18 pts/game next year

Re: We Want the Monk: The Malik Monk Thread
He’s been playing very well lately. Much more efficient. Where he seems to really be better than Lamb is creating for others. He drives into the paint and will get the ball to others for open shots. Lamb is just going to try scoring when he drives. Lamb is better at scoring, but that’s also taken like 5 seasons or whatever to get to that point and he still can’t create for others. I hope we continue to develop Monk unless there’s a no brainer trade opportunity that comes up.

Re: We Want the Monk: The Malik Monk Thread
Just to see how the "Young Guns"--Monk, Bridges, Graham--are doing as a group, I did a three-man lineup search, with a minimum of 100 minutes. Monk, Bridges, and Bacon are +8.9, in 8th place on the team. First place belongs to Bridges, Lamb, and Williams, at +23.7, but only for 101 minutes. Fifth place belongs to Monk, Lamb, and Williams at +13.9, but again only for 100 minutes. Together, Monk, Bridges, and Graham are -4.4. Monk, Bridges, and Williams are +1.1.
I conclude that the young guys need to be with at least one experienced veteran to be most effective. Overall, Bridges belongs to six of the top 20 groups, Monk to five.
As for Hernangomez, Bacon, and Graham, they appear in only one top-20 group apiece.

Really gotta think MJ has it out for Monk to not giving him playing time. Maybe he likes the vets so much because he still feels like he could go out there and he's living vicariously through them. He needs to get on board the Monk train, whether it's going to crash or not. If he can shoot, he can play. We aren't going anywhere this season anyhow.

"he has it out for monk"
if that were the case he'd have been traded last year. you gotta stop trying to insert reality tv story lines into stuff

It's not just Monk, almost everybody we've drafted. Last season, it was Cliff's agenda. Well, now we see JB doing the exact same thing so somebody higher up is calling the shots. With what we've seen out of Lebron, it's safe to assume MJ has some type of influence over the team. I find it especially odd against Monk since he has shown cases of knocking down shots and has fan support. Even if he gets beat 10 times a game, if we are going to lose anyhow, why not put him out there?

If 2 coaches do the same thing it says more about the player than anything.

what does lebron have to do with anything
as for monk, he's had plenty of chances to showcase what he can do this year. he'll have a hot two weeks then be a complete net negative on the court. i'd say maybe he needs more time in the g-league, but the last time we sent him there he took 20 something threes in one game to show how seriously he takes the practice environment. i don't mind playing him if we're tanking, but even then i'd rather not see his value go any lower than where its currently at... but more than anything else, bacon and graham deserve his minutes.
