We're probably not going to get it from Chandler but we're not going to get it anywhere else either, so why not try? The rest of our so-called small forwards are 6'5" [Shamet, Temple, Ty, Sindarius] and Green has struggled at the 3. Chandler is 6'8" or so. Doc is walking a tightwire trying to get him 8-10 mpg [minutes that were going to Ty] without losing the game.

If the experiment fails--and it's not looking good--we already know what we'll get from Ty--a lot of effort, but not much size or skill, just the things Chandler might somehow miraculously supply.

https://www.nbcsports.com/philadelphia/76ers/version-wilson-chandler-sixers-need

But all in all, it’s been a rough go for Chandler, who has missed 15 of the team’s 45 games. Every time it seems like Chandler might be able to start rolling, another health issue creeps up.

First, it was the hamstring strain that cost him the first nine games of the season. As he was recovering from that, he suffered a bruised quad that lingered. That was followed by the upper-respiratory infection that’s passed through the team.

He appeared to turn a corner in Boston, but in the seven games he played in following the overtime loss to the Celtics, Chandler averaged just 4.7 points and shot 31 percent from the field (23 percent from three).

In Tuesday night’s blowout win over the Timberwolves, the 31-year-old combo forward gave yet another glimpse of what he can provide this team.

He scored 14 points, tied for his second-highest point total of the season. He shot 5 of 7 from the field and 4 of 6 from three. He also added five rebounds and four assists in 25 minutes, showing off the all-around game he can provide.

It's a calculated gamble.

Personally i'd roll the dice. No point playing it safe. Odds of winning a chip is essentially zero, so playing with house money.

I mean it comes down to 2 trains of thought.

1) Win as many games as possible playing the most efficient lineups (IE no Chandler), to get as high of a seed as possible to maximize the odds of getting a good draw and getting past the first round

2) Risk losing a few games due to playing Chandler extended mins, thereby being a lower seed and getting knock the **** out by GSW

Why play it safe going 1), the lack of a credible SF will kill the team no matter what. Give Chandler burn and with some luck he can get some of his old mojo back and not cost the team games. Then try to go into the playoffs with a good strong squad. If Chandler doesnt have what it takes, oh well, not like the team was gonna win it all anyway.

Im very curious to see how Doc plays this out. I mean either course of action makes sense. Maximize odds of getting to 2nd round vs Maximize team strength.

It’s Doc. He’s a vet.

He will be given literally EVERY chance.

Thanks for a sensible response. Hate to rain on the parade of people wondering why Chandler is getting a little PT, but … Chandler is an NBA vet that can play at PF and SF—and we need that. And, c’mon. He’s played a total of 69 minutes as a Clipper … and nearly 20 of them were in the blowout loss to Portland. Other than that game, he’s playing less than 10 minutes a game, and we're 5 and 1. As noted, his issue now is not shooting the ball well—which is kind of what you expect from a guy who has missed extended time. He’s a career .444/.343 shooter. He shot .440/.390 in Philly this year. Thinking his shot will come around is not some sort of crazy speculation or wild line of thought; it’s logical.

Can't cry about Ty's missing 8-10 mpg. Ty's upside isn't there. He's a SG who can't S. So far Chandler hasn't cost us a game and neither have Temple and Green. Trying to put a playoff rotation together on the fly. We know what we have in Ty and Sindarius.

Good franchises search for Shamets. If they strike out, meh.

Bad front offices think adding Geoff Green as a missing piece to anything is a smart decision.

what is stupid is having the best team in franchise history and not going for it just to keep a crummy pick in 3 years

Green played OK--injuries derailed that team

Nah....what is stupid is anybody anywhere considering the idea of acquiring Geoff Green as “going for it”.

Glad we are smart now and search for Shamets.

the narrative is wrong here
Jeff Green did OK for us
you could look it up

the smart part was Doc lottery-protecting the pick, which got us Jerome Robinson
the actual pick going to Boston is a dice roll with the odds against it

Trading for Geoff Green to “win now” is stupid.

That’s not a narrative.
That’s just reality.

Glad we search for Shamets now.

Jeff Green played OK for us
look at the record
and there's nothing wrong with 'win now' when you have the best team in your franchise history
you're stupid if you waste the moment

everybody's "searching for Shamets"
most times they get Sam Dekker
Tyler Ennis

Sam Dekker isn't worth it
a 1-in-10 chance at an Eric Bledsoe isn't worth it
JaVale did nothing for the team that drafted him
and the Nuggets ended up giving Philly a FRP to get rid of him

2017 T.J. Leaf, UCLA – Indiana Pacers
2016 Henry Ellenson, Marquette – Detroit Pistons
2015 Sam Dekker, Wisconsin – Houston Rockets
2014 Tyler Ennis, Syracuse – Phoenix Suns
2013 Shane Larkin, Miami – Atlanta Hawks
2012 Terrence Jones, Kentucky – Houston Rockets
2011 Chris Singleton, Florida State – Washington Wizards
2010 Eric Bledsoe, Kentucky – OKC Thunder
2009 Ty Lawson, UNC – Minnesota Timberwolves
2008 JaVale McGee, Nevada – Washington Wizards

you're entitled to your opinion that Jeff Green wasn't worth a marginal draft pick
but that's an opinion not a fact
and it's certainly not worth years of whining

Everybody except GM Doc.

Glad we are back to searching for Shamets like “everybody”. We have a better FO than most of those everybody’s and that chance > the 0% chance that Geoff Green is ever going to be some championship team’s missing piece.

that's your opinion which you've stated over and over again now
if you have any facts in support please post them
I've posted plenty

I'm not going to sob about a 17th+ pick
the important thing was lottery protecting it til now, and now we're making the playoffs
time to move on

life in Clipperdom is good :-D

The pick was lottery protected for 2019 and 2020. The 2017 pick was dealt to dump Dudley. There is such thing as the Stapien Rule.

B-b-b-b-but "facts" though.

Good thing is....The team no longer wastes draft capital and they definitely don't waste draft capital on guys like Geoff Green. We search for Shamets. We acquire assets and there's plenty of em in the bank. 3 guys 22 and under in the startling line up. Life is Good.

the team is no longer a contender
'win now' is no longer a debatable concern
discussion moot

deals made in 'win now' mode cannot be judged outside that context

you are correct that the pick we're whining about now was the one to dump Jared Dudley to avoid the luxury tax
well done
the Bucks made it a throw-in in trading for the immortal Greivis Vasquez, showing its market value

FTR: the dreaded "Jeff Green" pick was dealt by Memphis for 2 second-rounders, showing its market value:
roughly a 10% chance of drafting an Eric Bledsoe
a 90% chance of drafting a Sam Dekker
or Tyler Ennis

You should be looking for Shamets when you are a contender and when you are not a contender. Circumstance does not excuse stupidity. We are in win now mode according to Ballmer and we still thought Sham and Zubs at the deadline was a bright idea over "our best player". It was....Because you can win and find Shamets at the same time....like I asked for during the Lob City era and like I'm asking for now.

Develop young players in a contender culture with Blake and CP? Nah.
When we're not a contender, find vets to help develop them at all costs though.

Smart.
