The reality is even the players we have now, there is nothing to be excited about other than vlaady. That hides the fact that the current team looks to be awful, as they were last year and before that. It’s hard to get excited about any prospects when the current regime can’t even put anyone exciting on the field today.

Great analysis. How about refuting what I have to say? Or are you just going to let Your hot take be that shapiro is a beast?

Looking forward to see what Thornton can do today. He posted some pretty impressive numbers for the PCL last year, and also held his own in the AFL. Doesn't walk many, but can get hit around a bit - so long as he limits the number that leave the park, he could work out. The team obviously likes his stuff.

The fact that our more exciting prospects aren't out there right now is a product of AA's tenure: in baseball, development of prospects takes years, so there would be little to no expectation that anyone taken in the 2016-2018 drafts would be in a major league lineup at this time.

We could have rushed a bunch of people to make things look rosier and potentially get a few more fans in seats, but that would be seriously unwise. So I'm comfortable with the bit where we're at long last prioritizing the long-term over appealing to those who only care about what is happening today.

Reid-Foley to start tomorrow. Hoping he can do enough to stick in the rotation. A tough season and I'd consider moving him to the pen next year.

Anything we can do get Richard out of the rotation and into the pen is welcome.

Threw all four of his pitches to Castellanos. Curveball definitely seems to be as advertised.

Feels like he’s getting squeezed a bit, too.

Leaguewide K rate through yesterday: 23.4%.
Last year: 22.2%.
2017: 21.6%.
2016: 21.1%.
2015: 20.4%

Worth keeping an eye on it; the annual jump has been pretty consistent.

I wonder how long it will take the casual idiots to realize that this front office actually deserves some respect, because they are showing a real ability to evaluate talent. Thornton looks nasty; he is commanding 93-95 and that curveball is for real. The mark of a good front office is being able to identify talent regardless of how high it is ranked on prospect lists. The amount of crap I saw from people questioning why we traded Diaz for this "non prospect" was pathetic.

Dropping two curveballs on the outside corner to begin an at-bat is just unfair.

Thornton's curveball is nasty!!! Love the way he's mixing in his pitches. Great start so far!

Be interesting to see how his stamina holds up, as that was a big question given his funky delivery.

That said, if he's merely nasty for three IP at a time, that plays in today's game.

Nice catch by Castellanos. Pillar still looking for his 1st hit of the season.

Thornton is showing two above average pitches. That's enough for a spot in a major league rotation. Everything else he picks up from here is just gravy. Solid trade from Atkins.
