he needs to hit the weights and also develop some more tools for his offensive arsenal.

he does seem to have a pretty robust set of ways to score around the rim already. If he could improve his ball security he'd convert way more of his current touches into shot attempts. In the paint you get doubled/tripled in a heartbeat, especially if the ball gets brought down low.

Other than that a low 30s % corner 3 ball at a consistent low to moderate volume of attempts would be found money.

Agreed. Not post up moves but something similar to Drummond's floater. With his current strength he really can't enforce his will one on one with bigs

I think Allen really needs to perfect that jumper from the FT line. I know the analytics say mid range J's are bad but he kind of needs to add something

He needs to get back to pace and play with the guys... idk if he's fatigued or feeling overwhelmed with the speed and pace?

Come on Allen! you won't beat Embiid but you can do so much more to help the team win... lets go!

DLO needs to teach him the moon shot.

If he can use it to shoot over Embid just think how it would work for Allen.

DraftExpress has a particularly interesting article on Fro. He comes across as a guy with many gifts, but also a set of fairly glaring weaknesses. I was going to try copy-pasting some of the highlights, but it's probably best to just read the article if you haven't already: http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Jarrett-Allen-83262/

At 21yo and two years in the NBA, with a contract year coming up, it seems like he's addressed some of those weaknesses, while not making much progress in others.

Others here have watched more games than I did this season, and can likely comment on this far more accurately than I can. All I know is that's it's an interesting situation. I could see Fro coming back this fall quite a bit stronger, and as the season progressed, more effective around the basket, as well as starting to hurt other teams with a jumper.

I could also see him sort of trying to do such things and not making much real impact, leaving the door ajar for the Nets future C spot.

He needs to work on his post moves. Develop a consistent go too move. But he seems to be developing nicely

Personally, I think the league is heavily trending towards a 5-out offense. Thus, for Jarrett to truly unlock his full potential, he has to become a reliable threat from 3 as well. Right now, the Nets are able to play 5-out in ultra small lineups with Dudley at the 5. However, they have to give up a lot of size and rim protection on the defensive end. If Jarrett's development allows the Nets to combine both the benefits of a 5-out offense as well as having a reliable rim protector, I think that would be huge going forward.

Even in this series against Embiid, it's often hard to finish at the basket for the guards because Embiid is waiting for them and he's actually a much much better rim protector than I thought he was. Same with Gobert against the Rockets. They are super willing to let Harden drive to the rim because non-shooting bigs can't drag Gobert away from the basket.

I've already read this multiple times now and just wanted to clarify that Allen has two years left on his rookie deal. I'm convinced that he will absolutely breakout in year 4 and that everything he is already giving to the Nets right now is just kind of a bonus. He wasn't drafted at No. 1 like Davis or KAT but sometimes I get the feeling people are applying the same standards to him. Allen was a raw prospect and that's why he was available at 22(?). He will take a bit longer to develop, but right now, I think he as at least on schedule if not ahead of it.

Whoops. Okay yeah, seems that year four ('20-21) is a team option for about $4m. I thought there was something off with it only being a 3-yr contract for a 1st rounder, but I obviously misread it earlier.

Good to know there's actually two years left before decision-time, altho I do think this summer is going to be significantly more of a priority for him than the previous two. The Nets clearly need him to get stronger, and hopefully that'll happen. It's time.

He needs to get his three point shot more consistent so that when he gets the ball at the top of the key he's not standing there looking around like he's lost. It's the one of the few things that pisses me off about the offense.

Why would we do that when the Nets wont post him up or give him post touches?

the nets view a post up as a wasted possession.

Exactly why should he improve as a basketball player since the Nets “view a post up as a wasted possession”

He needs to hit up Dwight Howard and see what drugs he took lol ... but he will definitely get stronger. He needs to add alot of strength, a 3 pt jumpshot, a hook and get his IQ up.

I don’t want him becoming 3 point happy but I’d want him to be a capable enough shooter that defenses have to respect his shot.

JA just needs to get stronger. 100% should be his focus offensively. Even if he slows down a tiny bit, he's still going to be faster than most centers. We don't switch or trap PNRs - so his speed is almost wasted. He needs to get stronger so he can hold position better. He can easily turn into a Capela level center. Starter on an elite team. Without adding any skills.

This is Dwight from his rookie year:

Jarrett Allen has a long way to go before he even is at that level of bulk

I think a reliable hook shot move and becoming at least a low 30s three point shooter would be some good growth. But he has to get physically stronger, the dude can score 15-18 points in a game just off of putbacks, dunks and catch and finish opportunities.

he also needs to stop fumbling the ball.

#1 Priority for Allen is definitely strength. He has to build his core strength so he's not pushed around easily.

He also needs to work on his hands and situational awareness. Far to many times he lets the ball go through his hands or he makes bone headed plays. Some of it is experience but maybe he needs to go over a lot of film in the off-season to shore up those weaknesses.

If he adds only strength, better awareness and ball security he'd already be a vastly improved player. Anything else would be gravy.

Also wish we would adjust our defensive scheme to further amplify/take advantage his quickness and length. (Kinda feel like Kenny needs a defensive specialist coach on the bench)
