LMAO Westbrook, and Rose have won more in the playoffs than Harden, so those examples fall flat. What about Kevin Johnson? Penny? Isiah Thomas?

People are acting like Dame didn't gave the opposite series of this one last year when he was up against Jrue Holiday playing like peak Clyde and got swept.

As long as the PG can pass (Ja is the first 20/10 player in NCAA history) there's no issues. Westbrook's been to a Finals and multiple Conference Finals, him not winning now that he's washed doesn't change that, no matter how much people want to act like he's the same player he was from 14-17.

Team garland spreading like a wildfire lol. I honesty feel you can trade down for him. Unless he goes crazy in workouts and the bulls or suns are looking to snatch him up.

the athletic point who can't shoot does have a shorter shelf life. i don't know if that can be argued. and i think in end of game situations having a top player who can create a jump shot off the dribble is paramount. at whatever position. the guys who can't are always gonna be at a disadvantage in those situations.

Rondo lol RONDO! You literally have to go back to the 2009 Celtics to find a point who wasn’t confident in shooting the ball and won a chip and he was surrounded by hall of famers lol everything after this we’re point guards that were 3Dish or could mix it up inside and out.

If ja can even become a decent shooter he”ll be iight but thats not even the only thing to Poke at his defense looks sus too. But other than that he can ball

i’m guessing you didn’t watch the video

you’re talking conference finals they’re talking championships. prime westbrook couldn’t lead the thunder with a prime durant. hence why he dipped.

and rose has been to what one conference final? harden made that last year and had a finals run with the thunder. not sure what your point is there.

Harden was on the bench in OKC and if you wanna talk rings the winningest PGs of the modern era are Curry (shooter), Isiah Thomas (amazing passer, athlete, and good scorer, worst 3 poib shooting G ever by 3 point percentage), and Magic Johnson (athletic PG without a jumper when he first started winning).

i think the distinction needs to be made between winning with a non shooting point and winning with one as your best player. and probably the last 20 years is too broad a period to evaluate the current game. it seems like we entered a new era 3 or 4 years ago. i think it's less about position than it is about your best player not being able to create a jumper for himself. giannis is a good test subject. can he win as a non shooting best player in the modern game ? can he even make the finals ? we'll see.

but...if you had a good enough 2nd option you could probably win with being a mediocre jump shooter like bron & wade before bron's jumper got better. but they'll be needed often in big time situations. and bron was already getting better when he joined wade.

I think that is over thinking it a little in terms of the draft. The game is always changing so what kind of team you need to build varies as well. 3 or 4 years from now could be a new era. I think you just need to take the best player and worry about it later. For example, it would have been a mistake to pass on players like Ben Simmons, Donovan Mitchell or Fox in the last few drafts.

Else, if we are only taking shooters, do we pass on Zion?

I won't be surprised. His jump shot and handles are elite. It looks like he has ridiculous core strength and concentration as well by the way he finishes around the basket. I feel it's more likely than not he will be a star player.

no but he'll probably have to develop it. i agree there's no hard fast rules to it. simmons and giannis have a size/physical advantage though. maybe that offsets the lack of shooting somewhat compared to someone like ja. zion fits that too. i still think someone else will have to score on end of game situations often. you're not getting calls at the rim at then end of an nba playoff game.

yea he'll be a positive on offense providing knicks with the shooting they sorely lack. highest offensive ceiling.

Wade/Lebron before that, Kidd before that.

There are multiple ways to build a team and win.

Jason Kidd shot 37% from 3 in the post season he won

Tony parker also shot 37% from 3 in the post season he won

They kept the defense honest and could hit clutch shots.

Lebron and wade had a reliable shooter at point guard to keep the defense honest in chalmers as well

For such a high usage ball dominant point guard ja”s gonna HAVE to become a good shooter anyone that dominates the ball like that has to because teams will take away what you like doing especially come post season.
