D'Angelo Russell On Upcoming Free Agency: 'I Definitely Want To Be Here'

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Thu Apr 25, 2019 5:33 am

D'Angelo Russell said he wanted to return to the Brooklyn Nets next season, although he understands the business side of the game.

"I definitely want to be here. But I also know it's a business, too. So I'm not going to play that role like I don't know what could possibly happen. Say somebody comes here that I have to be a part of (a transaction to acquire them), I know that could be a possibility. So I just want to stay in this moment and not speak too soon about anything," said Russell.

Russell is a restricted free agent this summer, and the Nets have the right to match any offer for the point guard.

Russell added that the Nets have a hometown advantage in his upcoming free agency.

"Yeah, for sure, for sure. I don't know any other teams, I don't know any other GMs or coaches. I don't know any of those people. I know where I'm at. So it definitely gives you that advantage," said Russell.

Don't worry about having multiple competing offers.

He's just trying to not be caught off guard if anything happens. Most likely he is staying. He's a restricted free agent and nets can sign free agents without a sign n trade. I doubt their going to be a destination for Anthony Davis. Thats the only sign n trade n deal that I could see maybe happen but I could be wrong.

Great answer by D'Angelo. Really impressed with thos growth as a player and as a man. People were ready to call this guy a bust. Brooklyn has a great young core to build around. They need to keep him around.

I don't think so. They may match, but not sure any big offers coming for the snitch.

It’s a tough free agency but a guard who can put up 21 ppg will be paid imo

You may be right but I doubt they "offer" him the max. I think they will see what his best offer is and match. Even if it is still the max.

Yep. The Nets are going to let the market dictate DLo's value.

a whole lotta guards can put up 21 if you give 'em enough shots. and russell takes a whole lotta shots to put up his 21

Russell is good but the crazy thing is that it's questionable whether or not he's a top 10 PG in the league despite him being an all star. Curry, Irving, Westbrook, Lillard, CP3, Conley, Lowry, Kemba, Holiday, Simmons, Maybe even a Murray? - you could argue all those guys are better. I don't think he's worth the supermax.
