As expected, the Philadelphia Eagles have exercised the fifth-year option on Carson Wentz\'s rookie contract.

Wentz is set to earn $8.5 million this coming season. He\'ll make more than $20 million in 2020, the fifth and final year of his rookie deal.

The Eagles drafted the quarterback second overall in 2016.

While Wentz definitely deserves the next contract he's going to get, pending him staying healthy, it is kind of frustrating as an Eagles fan because this means we have the dramatically scale back $$ at other positions. This is the last year where we can take advantage of a relatively low QB salary before it balloons. Hopefully we make it count and make it two Super Bowl wins in 3 years.
