Kemba sucks that much defensive gravity that this is a lineup that can work for BOTH Embiid and Simmons. We'd need to find some good defensive players in the backcourt for the rotation but the hope is Zhaire would be one.

But we would be old. Wish we could find a Kemba type player 2 years younger. But no one fits that description. Well Kyrie does but we have no shot at him.

Redick will not be back next year as a starter. If he wants to remain and take a pay cut, he's coming off the bench.

So does Devin Booker...But not a FA. I would trade Harris for Booker though.

Makes sense. And he could conceivably be agreeable.

The need him as more of a matchup-dependent weapon. He is a great fit offensively, but as he ages and we improve, his role needs to decrease.

I like Harris the player, but the valuation was way off there. You won the Butler deal and got crushed on the Harris one. And considering the amount of cap room out there this offseason (and you knew it was going to be that way when you made the trade) you boxed yourself into a max for Harris, and in a vacuum he's not worth it. But the cap space is a use it or lose it situation this offseason so the writing is on the wall.

We could salvage it by "trading" Harris for Walker and IMO that would fix a lot of our roster construction issues. It would also make us a lot older if Kemba and Butler are core components.

If the Sixers give Harris the max then it's over. A championship team cannot be built with players like Harris taking ~25% of the cap. He is essentially Chandler Parsons, someone who Morey let walk after another team was dumb enough to overpay him. West saw the writing on the wall when Harris turned down his offer and got rid of him. If the Sixers give Harris his payday when there are guys like Durant, Kawhi, and Kyrie on the FA market, then they deserve the treadmill that will follow.

So now after Butler has a big game and Harris hasn't, folks have now switched their "don't sign him to a max" stance onto him huh? :D What makes me laugh is not signing Harris would be fine if there was a viable replacement out there, but none of the big FA's will be joining us and Harris's signing is not just about getting a 20 ppg guy, he's part of a TEAM and a very important part of it. Harris can shoot threes, iso, rebound, create his own shot and get to the bucket etc. And at 26 there's still room for him to get better. IF things don't fall apart during this series then we would be mad to let Jimmy or Tobias go imo. Especially when folks who want them gone cannot come up with realistic replacements that would actually make the team better.

Getting a SG who can shoot at a good clip and defend well would take this team to another level imo. I would dump Redick and focus on getting one of Lamb, KCP, Ross, Bullock, Hood, Ellington etc and pair them with the big four.

They could easily be pressured into overlooking the real stars and signing Harris if he receives an offer from another team. "Lol"

How does someone that pays any sort of attention even convince themselves of this? Do you think this is as simple as “Hey Kevin come sign here”? How did that work last summer?

You're making my point for me. It often takes time to sign star players. If Harris receives a big offer very soon into FA while the star players are still deciding, he can put pressure on the FO to match.

How does referencing last year, when George and James signed on July 1 without giving the Sixers the time of day, make the point for you?

The Sixers wouldn't be picking Harris over those guys, they'd be picking Harris over the reality that none of those guys want to sign here. Do you have any evidence to the contrary? If there's evidence let's talk, but otherwise don't blame the Sixers because you want to live in a fantasy world by criticizing the team for a strawman.

Recruiting other players is part of the NBA. If the Sixers can't even secure a meeting with at least one of the big 3 FAs, then that is a failure worth criticizing, especially for a team with 2 All-Stars and 1 former All-Star. The person living in a fantasy world is you, one where the Sixers are helpless and unable to do anything to persuade FAs to join them.

Oh they should for sure try to convince them. But that happens well before July 1. If they sign Harris it's because those guys weren't biting.

We met with Lebron's agent In the summer and it made no difference. The big stars already know where they are going, They aren't picking a team on a whim.

Durant met with the Clippers, Spurs, Celtics, Warriors, and Thunder. He agonized over his decision before signing with GS. Lebron didn't pick Miami until they signed Bosh. And Bosh verbally agreed to sign with Houston before changing his mind at the last minute. And then there are guys like CP3 and George who took no meetings at all. So it goes both ways.

With reports that Durant, Kawhi, and Kyrie are considering the Nets, Clippers, Lakers, and Knicks (although most of these reports are probably fake news)... I see no reason why the Sixers shouldn't be in the running. They're a top 10 media market and have 3 All-Stars. The Sixers FO better be tampering like crazy.

I'm of the belief that we already have our big stars on this team in Simmons and Embiid. Now I know a lot of people would argue that, but i'm operating under the idea that we already have our superstar players in place. They just need to keep growing as players. I think it is absolutely vital that we re sign Jimmy Butler and max him out. He is absolutely what Philly needs. He embodies everything that you would want in a max level player.
As for Harris, I really like his game, I think he's an elite level scorer, I think his defense is underrated, I think we should definitely retain him as well. Although I don't know at what price....Looking at the free agent class, there might be a few veterans that can help us coming off the bench. Taj Gibson is someone i'd like to see us add off the bench. He's older, but he's a steady big man who can stretch the floor and defends well. Wesley Matthews and Corey Joseph are two other names I like. We need scoring off the bench in the worst way. If we can somehow bring back both Butler and Harris and add someone like a Corey Joseph for the bench, I would call that a good summer. I'm also gambling on Zhaire Smith improving, but that's another topic.

First off, employees are generally selfish and doesnt look to make sacrifice for his employer. No such thing as a paycut, their employer just found a way to compensate them without declaring it with the cap.

Tobias would want a bigger role and to be paid max. He’s 27, this FA is his best chance for to demand both. I’m guessing doesn’t want to be playing Dario Saric role and getting a paycut.

Jimmy is about to turn 30. I’d guess he will have the “LeBron 2018 mentality” on him and be thinking of life after basketball. But truth be told, he’s not that big of a star and the way for him to be big is to win a championship.

So between the two, I think we’d more likely retain Butler due to mutual interest. Given how much we need Jimmy, what we gave up for Jimmy and how our team is a contender, I see both sides settling for a deal. Maybe a 4 year max.

But for Tobias, I can see us watching how the market will react. That’s probably why his agent recently released that info about multiple teams wanting Tobias. If you look past the raw stats, Tobias isn’t a max type player. We also didnt give up a lot for him that it wouldnt hurt us that much if Mike Scott and Boban can be retained for a reasonable contract while letting Tobi walk.

I really hope we can retain both. I just find retaining Jimmy will be easier than Tobi.
There’s never been a time in history when we look back and say that the people who were censoring free speech were the good guys.

Those decisions were three or four years ago, now the likes of Lebron pick LA well in advance of actually going there. And now we see Durrant and Irving heavily linked with the knicks whilst it's well known that Kawhi wants to go to LA, most likely the Clippers. It's not a coincidence that all the teams you named above are in the two biggest markets in the league in LA and New York. Philly is a big market yes but it's simply not as big as those two.

It's not just Durant or Leonard or whoever star is a free agent. With the same money you could get potentially 2 roleplayers like Covington.

Probably not, signing another team's player is very different than signing your own guy to an extension, much less when you can offer him $15 million immediately like Cov's situation. That's generally the range of guys that get overpaid the most actually, the between midlevel/max range. At least we know the highest number Harris can make (his max), a guy you're thinking of could easily get a huge number. Like everyone keeps talking about Brogdon, it's probably gonna take some team giving him close to his 25% max to pry him from the Bucks, just like the Nets had to try that to get Porter (and the Wiz matched anyway)

Anyway, it's not really a 1:1 comparison, since signing other teams free agents for the same amount as Harris involves renouncing all of your other non-Butler free agents (Redick, Scott, Ennis, Boban), having to use the room MLE instead of the full MLE, ect.

Best version of the team next year probably involves bringing the starters and a few of the bench guys, operating as an over the cap team and hopefully getting good value with the MLE, and getting some production out of this years' rookie class (Bolden, Shake, Zhaire) and next years' (the first and two high 2nds)
