Danny Ainge Believes Kyrie Irving Will Re-Sign If Celtics Trade For Anthony Davis

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Wed May 15, 2019 3:12 am

Danny Ainge still wants the Boston Celtics to re-sign Kyrie Irving and he believes he will be successful in doing so if they trade for Anthony Davis.

The Celtics were once considered the favorites to trade for Davis, but their asset base has become less attractive in recent months. Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown stalled in their development while a first round pick from the Sacramento Kings dropped to No. 14, and a pick from the Memphis Grizzlies has yet to convey.

The New Orleans Pelicans also won the lottery, which could reopen the door for Davis to remain with the franchise to be paired with Zion Williamson.

Boston's season ended with a five-game series loss to the Milwaukee Bucks amid tension on the roster.

Irving is also expected to consider the New York Knicks, Brooklyn Nets and Los Angeles Lakers.

Griffin should send Danny to voicemail. His assets are yesterday's news.

He better be sure! If he trades half the roster for AD and they both ending up leaving, that'd be heartbreaking tbh.

Ainge overplayed his hand. If Kyrie leaves the Celtics are back in rebuild mode after wasting an enormous number of top picks.

What in god's name makes Ainge think Anthony Davis wants to play with Irving, when the talk is nobody wants to play with Irving   More to the point why is Ainge even trying to keep Irving in the first place. This guy is so overrated as a GM.

Actually the Celtics gave up Jae Crowder, Isiah Thomas, Ante Zizic and Collin Sexton that’s not exactly an enormous amount of top picks.

I'm not talking about what they gave up for Kyrie. The Celtics under Ainge had an unprecedented number of top 5 picks. No other team in basketball history had that number of top picks in such a short time span. What do they have to show for all these picks? A team that peaked at the ECSF? Now that Krie is leaving, Horford is aging and Hayward is an albatross, where do the Celtics end up? with a treadmill team that's going to be the 5-8 seed in the East?

Ainge should have cashed in on Brown and Tatum last season. Brown is now entering his 4th season and has little trade value and Tatum's value greatly diminished over the past season.

Celtics are headed for another full rebuild after being handed what was perhaps the greatest had in basketball history due to Billy King's ineptitude.

In the last 5 years, the Lakers have had:

#2 overall pick
#2 overall pick
#2 overall pick
#4 overall pick
#7 overall pick

Yeah, because someone in this draft picked 3rd or 4th is guaranteed to be better than Tatum or Brown. :nonono:

Ainge is delusional if he thinks they have the assets to get AD now.. That ship sailed when everyone thought waiting for the off-season for the Celtics deal was the best move for NO.

Thanos snapped his fingers and the Celtic's assets disappeared

Why would you even want to resign Irving? He is the most overrated player in the league, has shown he can not be a #1 guy and will not give up that role. I think Ainges time in Boston will be up soon, the guy waited too long to pull the trigger and made a mediocre situation out of a very good one.

It's all about potential. And yeah, the 3rd and 4th picks in this bad draft have the same upside as Tatum and Brown. Sucks, doesn't it?

The 4th pick might not be more valuable because there’s a huge drop off after the top 3, but I would imagine a majority of GM’s (not all) would value Barrett ahead of Tatum and anyone else in the Celtics or Lakers. Having 4 years on a rookie deal instead of 2 makes a difference.

Top players like playing with other top players. Irving just had a terrible playoff series but that doesn’t mean that every player in the league acted like a Celtic hater and started categorizing Irving as trash. He’s still a top 15-20 player. He’s still a perennial all-star. He still has a ring.
