NBA Likely To Move Start Of Free Agency From Midnight, July 1st To 6 PM, June 30th

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Wed May 15, 2019 3:03 pm

The NBA is expected to move up the start of its annual moratorium from midnight EST on July 1st to 6 PM EST on June 30th.

The move will allow formal dialogue between teams, players and agents to begin at a more reasonable hour.

The NBA will surely have more eyeballs on their own coverage and that of their partners moving the start to primetime.

Is there a reason why free agency doesn't start as soon the the post season ends?

Gives league and broadcast partners a prime time show on June 30th from 6-9pm to increase ad revenue to align with exact start of free agency while team aren't knocking at doors literally at 12:01am.

It would suck to be entering free agency, especially off a rookie deal, if you’re in the Finals and can’t line up any meetings. On the other hand, Draymond called KD from the parking lot, LOL. I also don’t think the cap is set until all of the league revenues are counted. I remember the cap came in a bit lower than anticipated one year and it messed up a few team.

More importantly they should move the season awards show to the day before the playoffs start.

Nice clickbait for the NBA. I assume it's ET.

Free agency should start the day after the Finals. It's better prep for the draft.

I suspect that for at least one reason, you want to give the NBA Champions some time to enjoy their victory, be the top news story, etc., before they and their executives have to worry about those things.
