Should Pelicans pair Zion with RJ Barrett?

Post#1 » by SFour » Wed May 15, 2019 5:44 pm

We know there are reports that Zion would prefer to play in New York, do you guys think that the Pelicans should try and trade AD for the Knicks #3 pick (and other assets) and then draft RJ Barrett in order to make Zion more happy with the situation he's in.

The Lakers could possibly offer a better package, but that might not matter if the Pelicans main goal was to make Zion happy and build around him.

If you're a Knicks fan, do you do this trade for AD, assuming that it would attract free agents like Kyrie and KD?

Something like Mitch robinson, dsj and rj barrett would be pretty attractive. Id take a lakers package with lonzo and ingram and draft bol bol at 4 though. But tgetting that 3rd makes a lot of sense and would be sick to see pairing the college teammates together

The Knicks should draft RJ to make sure they have the best offer. Having RJ in their package is a huge factor because the pelicans are going to look to make Zion happy.

RJ, Knox and Mitch would fit well. Add the 2021 Mavs pick as a potential nice asset.

Jrue
RJ
Knox

Zion
RJ
Robinson

alone could be scary, all you would really need to do is add a point guard that can be a floor general while spacing the floor and add another shooter.

why? so RJ can do what he did at Duke and take shots that should be going to Zion? to be clear, RJ's a good prospect, but he can't really space the floor for Zion or play off ball which should be a prerequisite to pairing them together. RJ would be better on his own team as the clear #1 option. Honestly if the Knicks think they can get KD + Kyrie/Kemba then they should probably trade down to get someone that is better suited to be an ancillary piece on that roster. Or take Garland who should be available.

there's literally no spacing on that team. Jrue, Zion and Mitch is a good core but then you need high level shooters at the off-guard and wing spot.

How sure are we that Zion and Barrett are friends though? I heard on the Dan Patrick show this morning that there had been speculation previously that Zion didn't want to go to the same team as Barrett.

I didn't see a good on-court fit with Zion and Barrett at Duke. Though I don't see anyone else as at #3 that's a better option.

They are practically best friends, they've said as much.

no

i like RJ but they are both terrible fits together...it's remarkable they they both had such great seasons considering their games dont compliment each other at all...both of their games are predicated on attacking the basket. they both need spacing to operate, and they both tend to collapse defenses inside.

maybe later on in their careers they'll find a way to play together because they're close (like LeBron and D-Wade did) but they're just not great fits on the court together.

I think familiarity is a great tool when trying to bring along a superstar. It would be a good pairing for Zion mentally.

Not a great on court fit.

Knicks package is pretty bad. Is RJ worth AD? Seems like NO would really be missing the boat.

I think they should.

Barrett has potential to be a great player and scorer and maybe Zion will like playing there if his mate is there.

Don’t have to try win next year, try to unload Holiday with AD for as many picks and young guys as possible

2020, will have enough cap space for 2 star players.

Could potentially have a Big 4...... IF Barrett pans out. Barrett needs to work on his 3 point shot

Just keep Anthony Davis and force his hand. If he leaves, he leaves, so be it. Why would you break up your only opportunity to have a core of Anthony Davis, Zion Williamson, and Jrue Holiday?

SO If he leaves NOP is basically in the same situation they were when they had AD and couldn’t build a proper contender?

NOP will have multiple assets to around Zion and they can’t miss that opportunity unless AD commit.

I think they are better off taking the Lakers package of players, and drafting someone like DeAndre Hunter at 4 who could be a perfect defensive 3 next Zion

It's a bad idea if your goal is to win that season. If your goal is to get a lot of talent that's the same age and on the same contract time line, it's a great idea for the future.
