Frank Vogel: Jason Kidd Is 'Incredible Asset' For Lakers

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Tue May 21, 2019 5:40 am

Frank Vogel said he's not worried about Jason Kidd potentially undermining his power as the Los Angeles Lakers head coach.

"I have been around this business a long time. I really don't give that a second thought. You can say that about every coach in the league about their assistant coaches. It happens from time to time. I believe if you treat people with the right respect and do the job at the highest level, build an environment of positivity and collaboration, you can't worry about that stuff. You can't worry about looking over your shoulder. You got to worry about getting good damn coaches, and that is how I feel about this hire," said Vogel.

Vogel instead praised Kidd's playing and coaching experience, saying that Kidd fits what he looks for in terms of building out of his coaching staff.

"I think he's done a good job as a head coach...This has been the model that's best for me, in terms of building my coaching staff: find a respected player with coaching experience that can help strengthen my message. I had a great, lengthy interview process with Jason where we talked about every topic you can imagine, and came away thinking he's going to be an incredible asset to our program," added Vogel.

How does Vogel not realize that LeBron cannot work with a white HC? He’s gonna be pushing for Kidd to be promoted to HC before next season’s over, bet.

lol he’s already fighting to keep his job! Hollywood needs to get the guy that created Chernobyl and have him write a script about the Lakers, he has a real talent for depicting disasters.

Got to imagine with the guaranteed nature of coach contracts and the fickle nature of owners/GM's that sometimes getting fired isn't the worst. If he is making 5 mill a year and gets ousted this year it's 15 mill, or more than most of the players in the league.

Especially if the circumstance is something where coach was winning like Blatt and it is obvious Lebron just wants a puppet, won't necessarily destroy future opportunities (not Blatt specifically)

All the pladitudes in the world won't stop Kidd stabbing you in the back such is the culture established by Rob Pelinka but then once your gone you will still keep collecting cheques so can't complain with that..

No one was looking at Vogel to coach so this is just another pay day.. The year Ty Lue took over from Blatt they won the NBA title.. They kept going to finals after that to face the most stacked team of all time but ok..

Blatt made the NBA Finals in his first year and lost to a GSW team with no suspended GSW players and with injuries to his squad. He was 30-11 the next year he was fired, Lue went 27-14 the rest of the way, so it is not like Blatt was doing a bad job to earn being fired. Just wasn't LeBrons guy. Lue had no head coaching experience at the time so no body of work to assume he could manage a championship team.

I'm saying if you get fired not due to your body of work being bad, but due to external pressures like a Lebron, you can prob a sbly get paid your full contract and not ruin your reputation for the next one (though Blatt is not a great example as has not coached NBA since)

I don't think LeBron wants a real coach of any color. He wants somebody that'll let him do whatever he wants.

Come on. What else do you expect Frankie to say? As long as he is getting paid in full of his multiple year deal, don't think he would mind getting the blame for another failed season.
