Wizards Essentially Rule Out Feasibility Of Hiring Masai Ujiri

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Fri May 24, 2019 2:43 pm

The Washington Wizards didn't gain any traction with the possibility of hiring Masai Ujiri to run their front office.

There was a report earlier in the Wizards' search that Ujiri could have some level of interest in the Wizards' job.

The expectations of high salary demands and the necessary compensation to free Ujiri from the Raptors makes a move for him prohibitive.

The Raptors are now one game away from reaching The Finals.

I don't think the Raptors ownership would ever let this guy go

they are the richest owners in the league and can out bid anybody if needed.

Ya sure. It was the cost that didn’t make this feasible. That and the fact that he wouldn’t dream of leaving the great position he’s currently in for one that is much much worse

That’s a fun hypothetical, as a raptor fan, would you trade Masai for Beal?

How much are any owners assests located for thier team.. I doubt their is an owner who could spend more than Balmer if push came to shove but to be honest I am not sure anyone would come close to testing those limits.. but geez check out OKC luxury tax bill but no one is going to offer Masai 100 mill for a years work..

Many executives actually like jobs where they can take a losing situation and turn it around. It’s a bigger challenge. You know, like the one Masai was handed when he left a superior Nuggets team and joined the Raptors?

Regardless, the biggest problem for the Wizards is he still has years left on his Raptor contract.

I dont get how so many people believe in the raptors, they have zero to chance to win it all.

sure many executives would want to do that, but many executives would also like to complete their initial goal of winning a championship with their original team and build on their legacy...and not go to trash team...

The biggest problem for the wizards is there wasnt 1 shred of possible evidence other than smoke coming out of that organization that Masai would even listen to this. Even if Masai wanted out, why Washington except for the fact they are looking for a new GM (which btw is a demotion for Masai).

I agree execs see a turnaround as a challenge. Masai tried to turn this around d feat. Demar and it didnt work. Now he will try feat. Kawhi.....if it doesnt work he is in the same rebuilding position he would be in Washington EXCEPT for the fact he isnt stuck with Walls contract and doesnt have the same guarantee he does from MLSE that he is the shot caller.

Look at our cap sitiation after next year. If you are a GM who wants to turn it around, which job are you taking? We either keep Kawhi or have 100+m in cap space after next year.

Masai made moves to set us up for that exact position.

We don’t know exactly what happened, but based on rumours I’m guessing the Wizards probably contacted Ujiri’s agent to put out a feeler, even if it was a pretty big long shot. That’s fairly common.

If it means we're also keeping Kawhi and Pascal then I'd seriously consider it. That's a multiple NBA Finalist core.
